Thousands of people lined up in Colorado on Saturday for the chance to get free 30-round gun magazines before they're banned by a new state law.

This is just so fucking stupid. 1500 are being given away. I guess these folks really think the zombie apocalypse is going to happen.

I'd never stand in line for a 15 buck magazine.

(18,318 posts)protesting the unworkable ban just passed. There was another post re this topic wherein it was explained a simple modification can be made to existing -- and LEGAL -- magazines, resulting in capacities exceeding the capacity this legislation has set. Of course, attempts were made by controllers to "HIDE" this thread, as if no one knew about such mechanical tricks.
And in this thread, it was explained how grandfathered mags could be ordered on-line.
So why the half-mile line? Probably for the same reason you had MANY half-mile lines at gun shows across the nation: These people are making a public and vigorous statement to politicians and controllers that gun-owners are on notice and are not the least bit shamed, side-lined, or stigmatized. If I am correct, these demonstrations would be instructive to anyone interested in American politics.
It was said after Sandy Hook that the debate over guns had fundamentally changed. Boy, that's the truth. NEVER have I seen such a phenomenon. Expect to see more of it.

(16,199 posts)If you ban something, many people will want to have it just because they won't have access to it later, even if they don't need it now. I still remember the boxes of R12 cans stockpiled in a garage with $0.99 stickers on them.
