Thousands To Rally In Texas With Senator Wendy Davis On July 1
http://samuel-warde.com/2013/06/thousands-to-rally-in-texas-with-senator-wendy-davis-on-july-1/

Monday should be a pretty exciting day to watch American democracy at work. Much of the country’s media will be focused on the State Capitol in Austin, Texas where thousands are expected to show up and rally for women’s reproductive rights.

..... Another exciting aspect of this event is the solidarity it seems to be creating between women rights groups around the country:

“While women’s reproductive rights are being challenged in many states across the country and now in the U.S. House, what has taken place in Texas has brought tens of thousands of women and organizations together in this fight. UniteWomen.org- Texas is working with so many new and long established groups standing together to make our voices heard. Other states are watching and are not only standing with Texas, but re-energized to engage in their own states as well.” – Patricia M. Gil, Executive V.P. of Operations and Texas resident.

Many Americans first came to the realization of the oppressive policies being instituted in the state of Texas with the heroic filibuster effected by Texas State Senator Wendy Davis last Tuesday. That filibuster was just a continuation of an incessant fight by valiant Texas women who refuse to capitulate to a Texas undemocratic Republican Party.

The first big March on the Texas Capitol on women issues in recent times was the War On Women Rally in April of 2012. It was successful in that it showed Austin that there was a building revolt which slowed down some of the oppressive legislations.

Texas Voters Oppose Governor Perry's Omnibus Abortion Bill
http://gqrr.com/articles/2013/06/20/texas-voters-oppose-governor-perry-s-omnibus-abortion-bill/

A majority of Texans oppose the legislation currently being considered by the legislature that imposes restrictions on abortion and 80 percent do not want abortion to be raised during the special session of the legislature called at the end of May by Governor Rick Perry.

Of registered voters, 63 percent say the state has enough restrictions on abortion and 71 percent thinking that the Governor and legislature should be more focused on the economy and jobs. A majority opposes the sort of legislation passed by the state Senate and being considered by the state House during this legislative Special Session, believing that it imposes further restrictions on abortion. Overall, only 34 percent trust the Governor and the legislature to make decisions about women's healthcare.

The following memo is based on a statewide survey of 601 registered voters in Texas, conducted June 17 – 19, 2013......

Just shoot to kill those unarmed mothers if they get in the way. I have family in Texas, and that's exactly how many of them feel.
"The only good librul is a dead librul" unless it's a fetus. We can't kill them until they're old enough to register to vote.

Another big campaign issue: who in Congress will uphold your rights.

On the state level, we have Texas Senator Wendy Davis upholding the rights of the People.

Why I #StandwithWendy
http://austingastronomist.com/choose-standwithwendy/

When I was eleven years old, my school class took a break from learning one afternoon to attend a presentation about “Aiming for Success.” We filed quietly into the library where we listened to two youth pastor types give a lecture on “purity,” and “self discipline.” The focus of their pep-rally style presentation was sexual decision making, namely how practicing abstinence was the only possible way to achieve success as a teen. As they talked, a slide show of herpetic lesions, along with buzzwords about success and goals played behind them. There were other props, too.

“You only get one chance to unwrap a present,” lectured the speaker while she held up a shiny, pink package sealed with a bow. “Once you take off that bow, it’s never special again.”

My eleven year-old self had never considered sexuality in this way, and I was confused. Was I the present? If so, who had wrapped me up in the first place? Did boys have bows, too? And what if I felt like unwrapping my present with a girl instead?

Nothing we discussed in the school library that day helped clear that up. We didn’t talk about consent, contraceptives, or even the basic anatomy of our rapidly changing bodies. We also didn’t talk about what to do if you did want to have intercourse, which seems pretty germane since up to 10% of the children in my class actually were. Instead we focused on abstinence ............

Can you take a moment to make a phone call to The Texas State House, The Texas State Senate, and Governor Rick Perry?
Click here to find the phone numbers you need:http://www.commoncause.org/siteapps/advocacy/search.aspx?c=dkLNK1MQIwG&b=4860375.

When you call, you don't need to say a lot—just reiterate the main message of the petition, which is:

"I want to join Senator Wendy Davis and her filibuster of SB 5. You are a leader of a civil government, not a religious institution, that is responsible for providing equal health care services, among other things, to every community in every corner of the State – large or small, rich or poor. SB 5 denies equal access to women’s health services. That is unconstitutional – and as we vote in 2014 we will remember those who would deny access to equal health care services to Texas women and their families.”

Then, help me keep track of how many calls have been made by clicking here:

Once again Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst are attacking the constitutional rights of women in Texas. On Tuesday, Sen. Wendy Davis and the Senate Democrats stood together to stop harmful legislation from passing in the Texas Senate.

We aim to stop them, and you can join us!! If you have not already done so, change your profile picture to an orange pic displaying that you stand with Texas women. Here are some images that are available for download: http://lindsaybraundesign.com/#/stand-with-texas-women/

Please keep this as your profile pic for the week of July 1st - July 7th to show the Texas legislature that the world is paying attention.

Round-Up Of Wendy Davis' Appearances on This Morning's Sunday Talk Shows

On Meet The Press, Davis spoke about Texans' value of personal liberty and the fact that this battle is far from over. She also emphasized the omnibus nature of the anti-abortion bill that does more than just ban abortions after 20 weeks (before the point of viability) -- it also would shut down 37 of the 42 abortion clinics in Texas.

On Face The Nation, Davis spoke with fellow TCU alum Bob Schieffer and responded to Perry's awful personal attacks.

Davis completed the Sunday morning hat-trick with an interview on ABC's This Week.

Mass Action Preparation! (6/30/13)
http://www.riseuptx.org/

Rise Up Texas

The Republican attack against women has created a moment of awakening and action. People are rising up in unprecedented numbers to be a part of democracy and history. Here in Austin, we are coming together across communities to stand against this injustice, preparing to take nonviolent action, if democracy and justice is denied.

RISE UP TEXAS believes that all women, regardless of race, economic status, disability status, religion, immigration status or where they live, must have an inalienable right to safe, affordable and accessible healthcare. The attacks by the Right wing against our bodies, our communities and the public sector must come to an end. We are rising up. We will Not Go Back.

We are preparing ourselves to take action to stop this madness. Many of us are willing to put our bodies on the line to say no to this attack. We are offering nonviolent training on SUNDAY

This sunday RiseUp Texas will host a series of free public trainings and planning meetings for the upcoming special session at the Capitol.

We encourage anyone who can make it to come and plug into the community working on this issue.

We’ll be meeting on the South side of the Capitol Building from 5:00pm to 8:30pm and possibly later. Follow us @RiseUpTX

The tentative schedule for the trainings is as follows:

5:00pm – 5:30pm / Orientation & Updates
5:30pm – 6:00pm / Know Your Rights Training
6:00pm – 7:30pm / Non-Violent Direct Action Training
7:30pm – 8:15pm / Spokes Council
8:15pm – ??? / Breakout Groups

Our Goals:

Educate, Inspire, Empower People for Transformative Change
Take Nonviolent Direct Action to Stop the HB 1 and SB 9
Expose and Hold Accountable all those responsible – Perry, Republicans or Democrats
Make Visible those who are most impacted, amplify their voice and agency……Connect the attacks on youth, voting rights, immigrants, people of color, rural and poor people – it is all part of the same struggle
Build a sustainable anti-racist grassroots power base for long-term change

Dewhurst, Texas GOP Tout Doctor Who Thinks Women Need Permission to Work Outside the Home
http://progresstexas.org/blog/dewhurst-texas-gop-tout-doctor-who-thinks-women-need-permission-work-outside-home

David Dewhurst and Texas Republican lawmakers hosted a press conference Tuesday morning touting Steve Hotze, a Houston-area "doctor" who is suing to stop the Affordable Care Act being implemented in Texas. Hotze's rather insane beliefs include the idea that a woman must get permission from a man to work outside the home.

The following is an overview of Hotze's beliefs:

A wife may work outside the home only with her husband's consent
Birth control pills prevent "the production of women's biologically identical female hormones and pheromones, making them less attractive to men"
When men lose their testicles to disease or injury, they have difficulty reading a map, performing math problems and making decisions

All disease and disability is caused by the sin of Adam and Eve
Medical problems are frequently caused by personal sin
No doctor shall provide medical service on the Sabbath
