The newer member Supremes seem unimpressed with the job and may leave

before any of the expected senior members.

Justices Sotomayer and Kagen seem bored and miss their old jobs. The pace of the court is not geared for younger action orientated justices.

The fast pace of NYC and a top university has more to offer than hanging with the current crop of equals.

is there some tangible support for the opinion.

I don't think any of the current Justices are thinking of leaving for the reasons you suggest. What makes you think they are?

Ginsberg has stated what her goal is (to last a certain time to set the record with her idol)

and Breyer too.

The four after will be the game changers

Sonia would be a great chief justice

I think the op opinion is stirring the pot

Both are probably amazed that the 5 racists ones exist in modern day America, but they know, in just 4 years,
when Hillary is President in her 1st or 2nd year, it will be 6 to 3 democratic

and they know, President Obama will shortly nominate two more Sonia & Elana's after Breyer and Ginsberg retire in a the next two years.

Elana Kagen and Sonia Sotomayer will be thorns in the republican side for 40 years.
Two of the greatest.

I have not heard anything like that out of Sotomayor or Kagen. And you offer no support for your theory either.

That all the conservatives on the court will step down and be replaced by rainbow-colored unicorns. Without some explaination, people will rightly think that's kinda silly.

The Chief Justice is responsible for administration of the federal judiciary and is their official spokesperson. So in that role he has asked for pay raises for federal judges and has asked vacancies be filled. He has not spoken about himself personally.

Having once worked as a law clerk for a state supreme court, I can tell you that the behind-the-scenes stuff was extremely intense, all the time. We sometimes pulled all-nighters researching and drafting opinions. I can only imagine how much busier the US Supreme Court must be. I doubt very much that any of the Justices is bored - that's not a job you walk away from.

Scalia can be forced out due to his mental state.

It's pretty obvious he is well into either Alzheimer's or senile dementia.

How does one challenge whether a Supreme is competent to be on the Court? (Not that I ever thought he was actually competent - but you get what I mean. Anyone know?

It would be his peers on the court who would most likely approach issues of health in conflict with service.

"obvious". Rather, it seems to ME his behaviour HAS changed - that it has deteriorated into more and more bizarre statements and behaviour.

I'm not a medical doctor, but my father and aunt had Alzheimer's and my mother and grandmother senile dementia, so I've had a little bit of exposure to behavioural changes. (Of course considering MY risk, it might all be delusional on my part, too.)
