Like all of us, I have my own inklings of what may be going down, but find myself instead just becoming really tired of it all (including exhaustion and sadness at observing DU eating itself and watching good Democrats/liberals/progressives, which the vast vast majority of us here are, I believe, getting ripped to shreds). So I am spending far less time on the internet, or talking/thinking politics, and far more time immersing myself into my hobbies, family, etc.
My current position is one of increasing cynicism/skepticism (I know they are different, but I am finding both for me are at high levels). How are you doing with all of this "stuff"?

(45,358 posts)I have always been 100% cynical/skeptical about the GOP because they are horrible people who don't care about people and lie about it.

(11,481 posts)I have, and never have had, any trust in government when it comes to civil liberties. Government's natural tendency, being a part of the bourgeois power structure, is to allow JUST enough dissent so that the masses get to let off a little steam WITHOUT endangering that same power structure. If it gets TOO widespread or TOO militant, it's the government's job to crack down in order to protect capitalism for the owners.
As to the poll, I voted "other" because, as stated above, I didn't have much trust to begin with, so the recent revelations are just verification.

(11,464 posts)As Johnny Nash (that's N not C) sang "I can see clearly now"
and I myself see things perfectly clear.
(and that is neither cynical at all).
but the instant gratification of this generation as opposed to my generation is the big difference.
As Harry Chapin used to say when someone shouted out "Sing Bananas" early in the show
Things gotta build to a crescendo.
One doesn't have the encore in the first act.
So I guess there is to me ZERO.
Because I see the prize at the end of the fight, when the dust settles.
So let's just sit back and enjoy the movie.
The BEST is yet to come.

(22,845 posts)I dread the future.
I'm very much afraid the corporations are creating a worldwide surveillance state in which practically everything we see, do, eat or read is controlled. Except for the oligarchs, we will all be prisoners.
I used to wish for grandchildren. Now I'm not so sure I want any being brought into the world I fear is being created.

(16,327 posts)...when I watched so many Dems back much of the worst of the Bush policies. Any hope they could actually act as the GOP antidote was jettisoned when I read the names "Rahm Emmanuel", "Tim Geithner", & "Arne Duncan".
The People need champions now more than ever.
At this point I have zero confidence that the Party will have the courage to throw off their new Corporate Masters. With Hillary as the presumed nominee in 2016, I have no reason to believe anything will change.
