Scott Walker? Walker is a vile turd, who embodies everything the Democrats should be standing against, but there's Mr. Obama, with a big smile, showing off a t-shirt Walker has just handed him on the airport tarmac. Is there some grand strategic design at work here? Some multi-dimensional gamesmanship too subtle for me to grasp? Or is this just another baffling, what-the-fuck moment in the Obama presidency?

(21,024 posts)I'm just reporting on what I saw on Ed's show last night. I slept on it and was still pissed off this morning. Accusing me of trolling is a lame response, and probably one I could alert on if I were so inclined.

(31,244 posts)Are there anymore heads of state the President of the United States shouldn't be photographed with? Is there a list somewhere? He is the President of the United States, greeting the head of state of WI. Contrary to the hyperpartisanship that permeates the blogosphere, normal Americans have consistently given this president high marks in personal approval & likeability. He's "likeable" for a reason, and you'll just have to deal with it.

if this is what keeps you up all night still pissed in the morning... woah. I suggest you take a long rest from this.

(63 posts)Governors typically greet the president when he visits their states. Why should this protocol be changed by the President because we detest Walker?

(95,337 posts)I have no problem with him posing with Walker. It doesn't mean he endorses the guy, his policies or even his party. It just means that Obama has way more class then most.
Edit Note:
It use to be ages ago that democrats and republicans could actually work together to make this country a better place but sometime after Reagan was elected that system started to erode. When the Republicans first took over the house back in 1994, Newt Gingrich created an enviroment of 'it's my way or the highway' mentality that started the downward spiral to the divided politics we have today. I think the absolutely worst that it got was during the years that Bush Jr. was boondocking in the White House where he basically said 'fuck you' to the democratic party and did what he wanted. He probably had more executive signing statements than any other president in history which was his way to write the laws congress passed to fit what he wanted to do.
Our country will NEVER EVER get better if we continue with this type of politics. It also won't change simply because Obama posed with Walker but it will help lead the way to a better way of politics.

(475 posts)You have to do things to keep up a public image. It doesn't mean he likes Walker or supports him. What is he supposed to do, walk up to him on the tarmac and knock his lights out?

(146,338 posts)and Walker is the Governor of one of those states, for now. It's his job. It is that simple.

(18,665 posts)The last thin Walker wants is the 'Baggers seeing in him chumming up to the president on the six o'clock news. He got his seat based on his shared hatred of Obama, and a smiling photo-op would appear hypocritical to those few supporters he has left. Obama would just appear to be doing his job of presiding over all 50 states, unpleasant as it is.
I just heard the governor cancelled on him, proving his political sonar is still pinging the depths of the tea party base. Dammit.

(23,973 posts)Or instead of shaking a Republican governor's hand, use Kung-Fu on them and break their arm!
Some people voted for an adult, and got one.
It makes the others pale in comparison when they have their little staged 'moment'.
Ask Jan Brewer how her little temper tantrum on the tarmac is working out for her.
Besides, Walker stayed home and gave Mr, Obama a note from his mother saying that he had an upset tummy.

(6,086 posts)every official with respect, even if he loathes their politics. Frankly, that's why I would NEVER run for president because more than a few of the worst would come up missing, LOL!! Seriously speaking though, this is just the something that someone in his position has to perform, good bad or indifferent. Don't you think that it's about time that the rifts that have become so painfully obvious between Americans of different political stripes begin closing with the person at the top of the pyramid who is supposed to represent each and every one American?
Divisive politics is what is destroying what America USED to stand for and a new beginning has to start somewhere, with someone, don't you think, PScot? Just because he was scheduled to take a photo with "human" whom we laughingly refer to as the governor of Wisconsin DOES NOT mean that he either agrees with nor endorses walker's actions. It's just his job, dear.
