(IN) Columbus City Council Bans BB Guns In Public

The Columbus City Council has passed an ordinance banning children from carrying BB guns in public.

Tuesday’s vote was unanimous WTHR reports.

“Police and city leaders say this has become a real safety issue, saying BB guns and air rifles look too much like real guns these days. These types of guns and rifles have caused people to call police, concerned that a weapon was being waved around near parks, schools and at passing cars around Columbus.”

The ordinance pointed out that the city’s existing laws did not regulate “modern weapons such as pellet guns, BB guns, air-soft guns, paintball guns, etc.” Anyone violating the law will be fined $150 for the first offense and at least $350 for a second offense.
