The reporting on the Morales plane incident is a mess

I've seen reports that the plane was denied access to Italian, French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish airspace

I've seen reports that French and Portuguese permission was denied for "technical reasons"

I've seen reports that the French deny denying airspace access

I've seen reports that the plane refueled in Spain

I've seen reports that the plane was searched in Spain

I've seen reports that the plane landed in Austria to refuel

I've seen reports that the plane requested an emergency landing in Austria because of a fuel indicator problem

I've seen reports that the Austrians say Snowden was not aboard

I've seen reports that the Austrians could not know whether Snowden was aboard or not, since they didn't search the plane

I've seen reports -- quoting one and the same Austrian official! -- that the plane was searched in Austria and that the plane was not searched in Austria

I've seen reports that the plane landed this morning in Spain's Canary Islands for servicing

This is nothing new. This has been going from years. Nothing surprising.

The problem is that we are guilty. We accept reporting without sources. We repeat them. At least, the media have a good reason. They have to cover 24/7 with not enough material for this. What is OUR excuse?

I hope they are let down gently when they realize it was all for naught and that most stories of this nature are never fully told until a day or two after the occurrence.

on half-truths, others on lies, and others on rumor, but stated as fact. Real truths can't even be heard ... and the sensationalists often spin for media $$$$$. We've gotten so who cares in the reporting structure about facts and truths a long as it sounds good and hits the streets first.

But, you seem to be one who stayed up late savoring every delicious morsel of this story. It must have been a fun night.
