I personally hope he is found guilty of the top charge, 2nd Degree Murder and gets 25 to life. How about you?

(1,151 posts)I hope the jury members don't have any agenda or pre-determined decision of guilt or innocence that they managed to hide in jury selection. I hope they decide based on prosecution evidence. I think prior actions of defendants (911 calls or arrests) should be used in sentencing, but not in a jury's determination of guilt in a specific crime.
If the evidence for that night convinces the jury of guilt then they should find him guity. If not, we already have too much "this person's history means they probably committed this specific crime and should be locked up" - extending that to non-blacks doesn't help the system. Deciding that he didn't break the law but still should be locked up also doesn't help no matter how bad they think the law is. I'm ok with a jury finding someone not guilty because a law sucks (e.g. marijuana laws) but I'm against finding someone guilty because the jury doesn't like a law (e.g. gun laws).
everything I was going to.
That's all I hope for.
A fair and impartial jury that tries its best to convict or acquit based on the evidence, and nothing else.

(20,277 posts)trial would be the catalyst for that. Actually, this coupled with Sandy Hook and other senseless gun deaths.

One point is not in dispute and that is that Zimmerman initiated this incident in general. There was a kid walking through his neighborhood whose appearance he didnt like and so he decided to confront him in some way.
Without that decision, Martin is alive today. That part is not in dispute. To me, that is enough to assign blame. The rest of the information that has come out is enough for me to say Zimmerman is legally guilty.

(17,600 posts)The only question is whether it was "justifiable".
Which is bizarre, in my mind. A**hole puts himself in a situation that he can only get out of by killing an innocent person, and he expects to walk?

(25,406 posts)There is no way that the evidence presented so far proves murder beyond a reasonable doubt. And the defense case has not even begun. So a verdict of murder would indicate a rogue jury.

(805 posts)He's not a danger to anyone, any longer, so nothing constructive would come from him going to jail. The felony charge would prevent him from ever legally owning a gun again, and prevent him from being a cop or security guard.
The felony charge would also grease the way for a wrongful death lawsuit, and if he's out in the world with a job, it would benefit the Martins by being able to cash in on that wrongful death lawsuit.
