Why wouldn't the postponement be a green light for businesses to dump

health insurance coverage for employees, and force those folks onto the exchanges?

Do you really trust businesses not to do that?

And why did larger businesses get this pass when smaller businesses did not Smaller businesses do not have to offer insurance but under the ACA, if they do they have to offer plans approved under the ACA that may be more expensive.

Some businesses with +50 employees and those with -50 employees have already dropped coverage. Expect more of that as the individual mandate is rolled out.

Additionally I am expecting there will a gap between medicaid eligibility in those places that are expanding it and the eligibility for subsidy for those who wil be over the income limit for expanded medicaid coverage.

My company couldn't dump the health insurance plan because if they did, their key employees (including perhaps myself) would bail on them in a heartbeat -- go find a job with a company that treats their employees better -- and my current company would be totally irreversably screwed. Other companies that don't depend on (highly) skilled employees -- or who don't have a reputation to uphold -- can trash their employees and get away with it in the short term at least.
