1. Actually in WA and CO, they are training the dog to ignore the pot.

If the dog doesn't know what pot smells like, then he should be fine.

or other hemp items. That would be really embarrassing if a drug dog alerted to your clothes. And it would end up being a real hassle.

4. I don't believe dogs alert on any drugs. IMO they alert to what the handler whats.

The dogs pickup on subtle cues, the handler may not even know he/she is sending out cues.

So when a dog finds drugs in a suitcase at the airport it is because the handler sent out cues?

Do you also believe that the handlers are psychic? If so, why do we need the dogs at all? How about drug sniffing cats or hamsters instead?

This could be a factor during the training process, which would help explain why the accuracy of these animals varies so wildly. I don't see how you can possibly think the dogs which are in the field are picking up on cues from their handlers.

10. To assume that the dogs can't detect substances because of this

has no basis in reality.

Of course some handlers will do that sometimes. The idea that a dog with a handler standing next to a conveyor belt filled with luggage will suddenly pick one out because of the handler is nuts.

This is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

12. Have you ever seen one of these dogs at work?

Whether cadaver dogs, drug dogs, bomb dogs or rescue dogs?

What you are asserting is that handlers can see things and the well proven sense of smell of these dogs is fantasy.

Good question, though. It would almost seem to me that they would, but I have no actual knowledge one way or the other.
