Too Many Tentacles.

Too many fires to put out. It is unraveling. Right now it seems slow speed, but I'd bet my bottom dollar that behind the scenes people in every agency are shitting their pants right now. Once enough pressure points are chewed on, across the world, by differing constituencies, then the wheels will come off somewhere. I'm just sitting in amazement right now at things. Hate to say it, but it's not gonna be good on any of us, party wise. Those of us on the right side of most of the issues are the most likely to have been ignored. Trust me, I know. I am one. We are usually the ones with the most practical ideas, the ones with the clearest heads it seems on what the constitution says and what it means, whether or not we have a law degree, because often our lives teach us these lessons- sometimes, repeatedly. I hate to say it, but a few Democrats might get caught up in this as it goes along- if so, expect DU to get uuuuugly. Hope I'm wrong, but bet I'm no so much. (Don't be too quick to judge the time frame for any fallout...This thing hasn't really started yet). :/

and positions on issues. You seem to think your's are the right ones and trump everyone else's. Unless you were being sarcastic.

Even when people are tried in court, "right" often has no bearing on what the law says.

Seems like there is particular issue that you are concerned about. Do you mind sharing?

As far as being on the right side, no one yet has adequately explained to me how we can have Secret Law. Let's start there, shall we? And the issues I have are that our congresspersons seem to be acting as if they don't know anything about it. Well, if they don't, then we don't, and that can't be. Those that have been around awhile dang sure know, and only those that have been sounding the alarm, I feel, are safe from backlash.

The nsa spooks are not going to talk. They are not going to tell the truth anyway. And congress isn't going to talk. So there you are. The republicans in congress want to keep things as they are - perhaps even expand them.

So what is your worry? Like your going get caught in some fallout? Safe from what backlash? Are you seriously worried about a bunch of forum posters ganging up on you?

Right has nothing to with the law, secret or otherwise.

against it. They're against it, despite the reasons for it. There will be a fall out. Whether or not it slow rolls or not. I'm sure the establishment is trying to get a quick handle on things for 14 (as they should). I just don't know how it will play out, but I guess I'm saying my worry is about the disconnect between the Democratic establishment and the American public going forward. I hope and pray the they all line up quickly for more disclosure, not less, and for more oversight, not less. If we go into 14 with a message that's not solidly on this side, we will likely not fare well. Secret law? Really? Secret law? The patriot act was supposed to expire, not once but twice. Secret law? So secret that congress doesn't even know about it? That sounds like fascism to me, not democratic republic.

Too many masks fell off and good will, based on illusions of democracy, freedom, respect for human rights, evaporated around the world.

Our economy is down the tubes.

We lit up the Middle East.

The environment is being destroyed before our eyes.

People all over the world are very angry over our massive world-wide surveillance, real people, not complicit governments that serve the 1%.

And Latin America is boiling after the disrespect the US and the "viejo" colonial powers just showed them.

The overwhelming support for Obama marked it as such and, with Bush in the background, it was as close to a revolutionary moment as I had seen in my then 30 years of watching politics.

It turned out that we elected a man who has spent his life adjusting to -not fighting - the powers that be, though we can be forgiven for thinking he WAS that given his soaring rhetoric and promise of change on a grand scale.

We thought he was Batman, but he was actually Plasticman.

discernment. People aren't able to connect the dots or read between the lines.

A careful reading of Obama's essay "Renewing American Leadership" was a good clue as to how far to the right he is, but nobody wanted to hear that or believe that, so they didn't.

We were primed for that sort of self-delusion. We wanted it, we needed it...so we believed it.

Bush pushed us to our own 5 yard line. We thought we were running the ball back to the other side of the field, but we only took it back to our own 25 yard line IMO. The real problem is that people now think we are close to the endzone and so the sense of where the 50 yard line has shifted badly.

In other words, we are still on our own 25 yard line, but have been convinced we are on THEIR 25 yard line. When the Repubs take office again, they won't have very far to travel.

idea the vile route the Republicans would end up taking to hinder him, whatever his true stripes. Have I been disappointed anyway? Yes, you bet. On a few things. Either they got to him right away or he wasn't exactly who I thought I was voting for. I am one of what the media calls the "professional left", a tea-party opposite on the Democratic side (in other words, a moderate democrat of yesteryear (pre-third way). You know, one who believes in strong unions, one who believes the people are in charge of the country, not the other way around. One who believes Wall St. should have taken the hit they deserved. They keep moving the "center" further to the right and then calling us who are left on the left the "extreme" left. AS if.
