to be up on the White House roof?! I always wondered where those shots of the Obamas watching the 4th of July Fireworks were taken?

We straddled beach chairs along our roof ridgeline and brought up sodas and popcorn (we figured we wait until we got down off the roof to start on the alcohol!). We watched an awesome show that was launching from just down the street. We could also see other shows all over, from Long Beach to those going off at Disneyland on the horizon. A bunch of our neighbors were doing the same thing. Whenever a really cool display went off we'd all clap. You got the feeling everyone was celebrating together...a shared patriotism born of love for our community and our country. A great way to enjoy the 4th.

Waking up to something positive is a plus. Also, we had a block party celebrating the 4th of July with all the colors and balloons. At nightfall the fireworks began with each street trying to out do the other, what a sight and quite noisy and smokey to boot!

We had a ball . .

We do love this country's freedom which unfortunately some do not appreciate. So thank you again.

A friend of mine used to invite a bunch of friends to the roof of the embassy of his country on Pennsylvania Ave., had a bunch of chefs flown in from Québec, and had a huge bash for his American friends plus a few fellow ambassadors from other countries.

The view was fabulous, and he liked to tell us that only Bill Clinton (who was president at the time) had a better view.
