Gallup: Republicans more proud to be American than Democrats

http://washingtonexaminer.com/gallup-republicans-more-proud-to-be-american-than-democrats/article/2532708

First of all, Gallup should still be hanging their heads in shame for their abysmal performance in the last Presidential election. They shouldn't even be allowed to opine on the %age of cats that enjoy eating mice. Gravis Marketing has more street cred than Gallup at this point.

That being said: Drudge is pimping this headline in his daily "look how evil the Democrats are" piece du jour. But I read this poll differently, and if the numbers are taken at face value, it proves that Democrats are better critical thinkers and not simply blind patriots.

Just because you are not proud of something doesn't mean you don't love it. If my daughter "borrows" the car after I go to bed and wraps it around a pole, I'm not going to be very proud of her and her judgment. But I would still love her all the same and would do what I could to get her to change.

We've witnessed bankers run the economy into the ground, our government lie us into a couple of wars, the intelligence agencies shred the 4th amendment and lie to Congress about it. Corporations are running wild without regard for the country in which they exist, resulting in previously unseen profit/wage disparities. The poor are being scapegoated for many of our problems. All around the country, budgets are being slashed in exactly the wrong places, burdening a middle class that is already crushed under the rubble of failed policies. Voting rights were eviscerated last week and LGBT people have to fight tooth and nail for every ounce of progress instead of simply enjoying the rights they should be under our Constitution.

Proud to be an American? Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no. Not so much lately.

This poll says something indeed, but not what Drudge thinks it does.

To be honest, I am not surprised by this poll. Democrats have been treated like crap for many years.....no equality, low wage jobs, voter suppression. Does it not make sense that after being treated like a lap dog for years that they may not have the same proudness for the country as the rich party? Plus the poll was probably asked to Tea Party idiots.

You properly analyzed the problem and have won a free trip to anywhere in the world. So long as you promise to not came back. We don't want your kind.

Living in a country where a powerful and somehow unstoppable minority feel that I exist to be a subhuman Tupperware for the holy unborn, I'm not proud to be an American at all.

Consider the source; Washington Examiner is a right-wing propaganda mill.

I'd put out a puke alert if I were you.

I'll bet the response was very different in 1963. Or 1948. Or 1933.

The TR quote comes to mind:

Democrats are proud of Americans*.

* With some notable exceptions here on the DU.

Anyway, isn't pride a deadly sin? Never could grok that disconnect.

That's how nearly every Republican I know is: very tribal.

They are very good to their own, but to the ones they look down
on or want to oppress or control, it's a very ugly story.

where gunslingers were heroes, all the women worked upstairs in saloons, and gold was the only thing of value. The people they are trying to appease still have that mentality.
