ANDFox News host: Not using God to sell beer means the terrorists have won
By David Edwards
Friday, July 5, 2013 11:38 EDT
A Fox News guest host asserted on Friday that the terrorists have won because brewer Samuel Adams was not in invoking God in its television commercials to sell beer.
In the Independence television spot that began airing last month, an actor in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager commercial quotes from the Declaration of Independence.
Why name a beer after Samuel Adams? Because Samuel Adams signed the Declaration of Independence, the actor says. He believed there was a better way to live: all men are created equal. They are endowed with certain unalienable rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Smooth, flavorful, we bow to no kings. Samuel Adams Boston lager: declare your independence.
On Friday, the three Fox & Friends guest hosts expressed outrage that the brewer had not included the phrase endowed by their Creator in the commercial.
When political correctness takes over the beer advertising industry, the terrorists have won, said Watters, who is better known for his job as a producer on Bill OReillys Fox News show. I mean, this is absolutely outrageous!
You know, maybe its because Sam Adams was the tea party guy he started the Boston Tea Party maybe the tea partys being targeted here, he added.
For its part, Sam Adams has reportedly explained that the Beer Institute Advertising Code advises against using religion or religious themes for marketing purposes.

(25,183 posts)I lived in a Utah suburb of SLC for six months in 2005 (worst decade of my life) and we had two supermarkets in town. One sold only the weak 3.2 swill, and the other was proud to say it sold none. Further, they were always closed on Sundays, and their movie department had "Clean Cut Videos" with all the objectionable parts censored out of them.

(6,926 posts)that there would have been just as many who would have screamed that they were using God to sell beer. The mindset of those who think that we should live by Biblical law is very narrow. I wish it was treason to try to thwart the Constitution, but it isn't it is just Unconstitutional. Those second amendment freaks need to learn that separation of church and state IS constitutional. Those who want to live by God's laws are going to be missing some stuff they enjoy.......OK, I wandered, but you get my point I hope.

(10,303 posts)I guess the hosts of the aforementioned television viewing opportunity aren't aware that a number of religions exclude the consumption of alcoholic beverages. That includes Sam Adams' products.
If any alcoholic beverage manufacturing company decided to try and publish an advertisement in Saudi Arabia and invoke Allah, I think the clerics would be out there claiming heresy and issuing fatwas and death penalty statuses to the people of the alcoholic beverage manufacturing company.

(50,931 posts)Fox News continues to stir up controversy with their insanity. They get upset anytime they feel (their) religion has been slighted. In this case due to not including "endowed by their Creator" as in the Declaration of Independence for the Samuel Adams beer commercial.
The fact of the matter is that the Beer Institute Advertising Code advises against using religion or religious themes for marketing purposes. Their research probably has found that it does more harm than good with too many groups being offended.
Anytime Fox News is offended about a slight they blame it on the terrorists. And they use logic that is beyond reason. A three year old would have better reasoning than those on Fox News.
= =
Fox News Logic excerpt
"If the beer code ethics code guideline, whatever bogus organization that is has more authority than our Declaration of Independence," he argued, "why dont you just pull out the Declaration of Independence and say, 'Ive got this document here, does this trump yours?"
= =
Really? The Declaration of Independence does not do what they think it does. It was a document that only stated our grievances against Great Britain and the justification for independence. Those grievances did not even include anything about religion. The Declaration of Independence had only one purpose and did not have authority beyond that scope. The Constitution does have authority and provides the structure for our government.
If you watch Fox News you are likely to suffer serious brain damage.

(12,336 posts)And there are an awful lot of dumb things to choose from. But saying the terrorists have won because a beer company didn't invoke some higher being in a commercial? Because they followed standards? Wow. Just wow.
I kinda like Sam Adams beer. Now I think I may go have one just so I can gripe about them "not using the phrase 'endowed by their creator'." Good grief!

(36,827 posts)If the Christians that make these ridiculous assertions understood deism, they would be more afraid of it than atheism.
Deists don't believe in a god that intervenes in the lives of humans. Deists believe that god created the universe and left us all up to our own means. They rejected revelation, religious dogma, and even organized religion itself as silly nonsense.
The phrase "endowed by their Creator" really means that everyone is born equal with the same rights, and it's up to all of us to defend and protect those rights rather than relying on god to do it for us. It was a big "fuck you" to the Christian religious establishment which dominated western governments at the time.
