BOTH PARTIES say "Asylum for Snowden is an Affront to the U.S."

<snip>
(CNN) – Any country that offers asylum to NSA leaker Edward Snowden pits itself against the United States, lawmakers from both parties agreed on Sunday.

Venezuela and Bolivia have extended asylum to Snowden, and Nicaragua has said it would consider it.

"It's very clear that any of these countries that accept Snowden and offer him political asylum is taking a step against the United States. It's making a very clear statement. I'm not surprised by the countries that are offering him asylum; they like sticking it to the United States," Sen. Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey, said on Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Uruguay Ready to Consider Asylum for Snowden – First Lady
Topic: Ex-CIA Employee Discloses US Secret Surveillance Programs

BUENOS AIRES, July 8 (RIA Novosti) – Uruguay’s first lady, Senator Lucia Topolansky, said Monday that her country would consider giving asylum to fugitive former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden.

“This issue should be considered, once a request is filed,” Topolansky said. “Uruguay has traditionally been a country that grants asylum. I think that every country is free to shelter whomever it wants.

“Every country has its own rules and makes its own decisions, and no one is allowed to interfere with the sovereignty of other nations,” she added.

Complex. The former was grew out of and was legitimized by post-World War II Cold War insanity. The later has exploded into the stratosphere and has been legitimized by post 9/11 "War on Terror" insanity.

I think the rest of the nation, when hiding in the larger morass of numbers and not being singled out, shows a more accurate and genuine concern of the issues he brings up when they currently aren't being threatened with such.

after the Connecticut massacre. You saw how far that got.

Anyone who believes that public opinion actually influences anyone at any level of the federal government any longer is living in a fool's paradise and, as my ol' dad used to say, blind in both ears and deaf in both eyes. It is fascism now.

I should also have to consider that fucking US government does the same thing, AND keeps the info in some fucked up database. Never mind that said info is collected and processed by people without any ethical values, because only absolute scum would do a job like that.

The collusion between the parties is now in our faces, instead of hidden and denied.

This is an important lesson. Wagon-circling doesn't work. For the first time, we are united in our outrage, and for the first time we have a real opportunity to force change.
