At 200 lbs, Zimmerman is at the upper limit for "cruiserweight", which is right below heavyweight.
Boxing has these classifications because the punching force increases so much as your weight increases. A 50 lb weight diff would never be allowed between boxers, except at heavyweight, where there is no upper limit.
Martin was fighting for his life and knew it, unless you're dumb enough to believe he didn't have his gun out as soon as he saw Martin, if not before, and despite that Zimmerman got away with a broken nose and a few scrapes on his scalp. That should tell you all you need to know about just how extraordinary that 50 lb weight diff is.

It is conjecture to say that he kept following at that point. (Although the fact that he did not make it back to his truck in the at least 3 minutes between his call ending and the altercation starting would indicate that he did not go straight back to his truck.)
