http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/wapo-runs-huge-correction-on-pincus-column-aboutSurely these errors in reporting don't matter, because he's obviously guilty of so much more, like practicing journalism for example. I'm surprised that none of his detractors haven't tried to make hay outta the fact that he rescues dogs off the street. Surely there's something nefarious about that just waiting to be revealed.

(24,979 posts)"traveled the world on a CIA stipend," as he put it, and who wrote he did not regret serving the agency as an informant on the political activities of other Americans. CIA as a student, now the CIA's mouthpiece at the Washington Post. One of the three journo-hitmen dispatched to destroy Gary Webb by disproving claims that Webb has never actually made.

(2,570 posts)but I always thought the stench of rightwingnuttery (at least in the last couple of decades or so) coming from the WP has been impossible to hide despite their lefty contributors. I can't really speak to GG's employer the Guardian on that.
In this case it appears to be more a persoanl battle between them and not their employers. SOmebody has been on top of all this, given it's already on wiki. Maybe it's time for Pinky to retire.
Pincus has been criticised by other journalists, including colleagues at the Washington Post, for factual inaccuracies in his reporting and in particular for failing to adequately address inaccuracies, even in cases where he has seemingly acknowledged the errors himself.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Pincus
In July 2013 Pincus wrote a highly speculative article about Edward Snowden [11] prompting Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald (himself a subject of the article) to write an open letter to Pincus regarding what he described as "blatant, easily demonstrated falsehoods" including:
"1) Pincus stated that I wrote an article about Poitras "for the WikiLeaks Press's blog" (I never wrote anything for that blog in my life; the article he referenced was written for Salon); 2) Pincus claimed Assange "previewed" my first NSA scoop in a Democracy Now interview a week earlier by referencing the bulk collection of telephone calls (Assange was expressly talking about a widely reported Bush program from 8 years earlier, not the FISA court order under Obama I reported); 3) Pincus strongly implied that Snowden had worked for the NSA for less than 3 months by the time he showed up in Hong Kong with thousands of documents when, in fact, he had worked at the NSA continuously for 4 years." [12]
Greenwald and others noted that Pincus also failed to follow standard journalistic best practice in not approaching him for comment or to fact-check his allegations which led his own colleague at the Washington Post to speculate that "Pincus was sticking up for his killer sources in the national security community" - something Pincus denied despite his widely known ties to and background in the military and intelligence communities. [13]
Following sustained pressure from Greenwald and others the Washington Post eventually published a lengthy correction to the article. [14]

(11,641 posts)was also the point I was hoping to make in that inference as well.
It's rather obvious that the whole point of the WaPo piece is to discredit Greenwald as a journalist.
That along with the fact most of the article was bullshit adds to the argument that Glenn Greenwald is truly a journalist and one that is being slandered by one of his major competitors..
Thank you for the backup information showing Pincus also did not follow journalistic BEST PRACTICES.
That's a huge tell there.....

(5,400 posts)Btw, here's my current favorite quote from the WaPo article's comment section.
"You and your editors ought to withdraw the column and issue an apology to your readers for the disservice you have done"
No!
far better this laughable article is left up for all to see and we do not want the comments deleted along with the piece-of-trash opinion bunk.
Far better this nonsense remains online for all to see! It reveals the smearing campaign as the dodswallop it truly is.
I am astonished and want this drivel to remain on the WaPo site (though I do understand your sentiments).
Yup!

He's a spook or a public relations officer for them.
I've read his stuff over the years some of it was helpful and not but you have to filter his stories through the eyes of the CIA and their agenda.

(12,647 posts)And we named her Gigi too! Oh the irony! LOL I can just see the NSA file on us: Suspects emailed Greenwald and offered to adopt puppy. Secret rendezvous was planned for the puppy exchange at an undisclosed location near the Potomac. Greenwald had to leave and catch a plane before suspects arrived at said undisclosed location, and his friend in honest journalistic crime, Jane Hamsher, met with suspects instead to complete the exchange.
Addendum: The puppy, aka Gigi, is over a year old now and insists on pooping inside suspects home on occasion. Suspects have realized one can take the dog out of the streets, but one can't take the streets out of the dog. Will continue monitoring suspects for any new nuggets to be gleaned from their friendship with Greenwald.
Oh, and Pincus is such an ass.
