The woman accused of shooting an Omaha firefighter says she didn't have a gun when loaded onto an ambulance earlier this month.
Justine Dubois implied Thursday that the firefighter, a trained paramedic, was the one who opened fire as the ambulance made its way to a local hospital.
Why would I shoot somebody who is trying to help me? Dubois asked during a press conference at the Douglas County Jail, where she's being held on a $750,000 bond. I am the one who got shot. ... I'm not the one who (expletive) shot him.
Steve LeClair, president of the Omaha fire union said: "We don't carry guns. Period. That's a job that is left to law enforcement, and we are not law enforcement. If there was a gun in that squad, it didn't come from paramedics."
