$1 for one can of Root Beer.

Hubby went to a local hot dog shop to get us a quick meal of dogs and fries (I know not healthy but quick and fast) anyways asked him to pick me up a can of root beer because I didn't want water with the meal and they charge him $1 for one can of root beer!

Can you believe it?!

This is unreal how prices are getting these days.

We have a BBQ restaurant around here and when we pick up sandwiches I normally get a small bottle of cream soda: $1.29

The last time I was in Rome, when I came outside after touring the Sistine Chapel, there was a vendor selling normal size cans of Coca-Cola for THREE EUROS each (which at the time was would have been around $3.60. I was very thirsty and bought one.

it was 50 cents there. Shocking! Gas was 80 cents a gallon, while it was 45 cents here. It was 1972. A dollar is not a lot for a root beer.

Single cans and bottles have been a buck or more in the quickie marts for at least the past 2 or 3 years in the Lower 48. The same goes for vending machines. I'm not the least bit surprised that a hot dog stand charges that much. On the other hand, one can often get a 12-pack of most name brand soft drinks for around 3 bucks on sale at the grocery store, making them $0.40/can. Less for store brands.

Zevia, a zero calorie soda with no artificial chemical sweeteners. It is sweetened with stevia. My favorite flavors are grape, root beer, and lemon lime. It's $5.99 per six pack though occasionally on sale for less. Only thing I buy at Whole Foods.

Back then, I would have thought 85 cents was too much to pay for a "stinkin' soda," but these days it's almost a deal. I remember when you used to be able to get a generic soda for a quarter outside of Wal-Mart, and a Coke for 50 cents. Those days are long gone, though.

I've seen sixty-cent Coke products or Pepsi products in a machine outside a store selling them for a dollar.

I've seen cans for seventy-five cents and for $1.50, a block away from each other.

I've been in stores (especially off the freeway) where a 12oz Pepsi in a can is only available if you buy a six-pack, a 20oz bottle is $1.59, a liter is $1.29, and a half gallon is 99¢. The only explanation I can think of is that you pay extra to decrease the risk of spilling it while driving.

I don't know, it's been decades since I drank any.

But back in those early days, I thought it was on par with A&W.

It's nothing more than sugar, water, and flavoring. You can make it yourself at home easily enough.
