Speaking of freakish religious nut Rick Santorum, via Ed Kilgore, this 2008 frothy outburst from little Ricky:

No. We all know that this country was founded on a Judeo-Christian ethic but the Judeo-Christian ethic was a Protestant Judeo-Christian ethic, sure the Catholics had some influence, but this was a Protestant country and the Protestant ethic, mainstream, mainline Protestantism, and of course we look at the shape of mainline Protestantism in this country and it is in shambles, it is gone from the world of Christianity as I see it.

To her the Catholic church is a mess of people who worship saints and statues (read: Catholics are idolators). Don't get the woman started on the Pope, the opulent churches, the regalia, the confessional, etc. I haven't asked her about which clown car occupant she is going for, but I am going to guess that she would gladly vote for Santorum. Anything to keep the REAL satan's spawn (libruls) at bay.

I cannot believe he is going to win over the Bible belt WASPs by re-igniting the old Catholic/Protestant disputes! What the hell? I don't think he understands how little regard some Protestants have for Catholicism. They are raised to believe Catholics are not Christian. There is a long history of mistrust that goes back even before the founding fathers.

Right now the WASPs are beside themselves. Do they vote for a Catholic, a Mormon or a Kenyan? I have no idea which they fear most.
