(62,270 posts)1. Look for "demographics"
Something like this? http://www.ropercenter.uconn.edu/elections/how_groups_voted/voted_08.html
Or this? http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/exit-polls.html
Otherwise Wikipedia's page on the 2008 elections is informative: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2008

(269,004 posts)3. Any chance of finding details re white men and white women
I was in a discussion last night and one of our friends was saying that more white men voted for Obama than white women. I was genuinely surprised but did not have the data.

(62,270 posts)4. It does indeed seem to be true:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1108/15297.html
Privileged white people tend to vote against their interests more often than not.
We lost 2010 because of all of those independents and whites jumping ship: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2010/11/03/exit_polls_unprecedented_white_flight_from_democrats__107824.html
So I wouldn't place too much on this statistic, since the 2008 elections showed a record turnout for Democrats by white males (who normally vote Republican).
If you look at more recent polls White Women still outnumber the men: http://www.gallup.com/poll/128261/white-gender-gap-obama-approval-widens-education.aspx
Basically, I think the "more white men voted for Obama" stat is because white male Republicans or Independents crossed the isle.
Obama's support with White Women seems to be consistent.
I do not think this is necessarily a PUMA effect.
