As far as the GOP is concerned womens' rights on family planning are gone already. The GOP is poised to pass a flurry of laws that will put family planning to an end soon. "Personhood laws", anti abortion laws and other restrictions like the "virginia rape" law will be on the books soon. The GOP will not back down and will find even more sneaky ways to make sure women are subservient.
Darrell Issa's hearing was the message. You will be shut out and shut out by force. If anyone had protested in the hearing they would be in jail right now. GOP MEN and their religious allies will decide your fate, the fate of your daughters and grand daughters and you have NO SAY. PERIOD.
That GOP Virginia legislator was so bold to say that by getting pregnant you agreed to '"STATE RAPE". Get over it.
No one has challenged him on that statement. No GOP politician man or woman has said anything as far as I know.
What part of "total war" on women and "scorched earth" strategy do the women in this country do not understand.

(10,602 posts)I am mystified that women across the country are NOT confronting these legislators toe to toe or at least demonstrating. In the 1960's the women would have brought legislatures to a halt. The silence is really deafening. Just being angry and resigned is not enough.
What will it take for women to revolt. Yes there is the ballot box, but you are seeing a GOP that is willing to pretty much put and end to all fair elections.
It is bad enough that women will lose basic rights. But when you have a male religious dominated party that will end all programs that benefit women and the poor and literally starve their children it has to be the final straw.
Women make on 78 cents on the dollar to a man and the GOP is AGAINST fair pay.

He is correct. Most of the women I know, are completely clueless about the current political atmosphere in this country.

They aren't going to win. We're in no mood to give up the rights we fought long and hard for.
A few teabagger governors and state legislators suddenly getting power aren't deciding the future of this country just because they got elected for the first time. They will eventually be purged or converted.

(8,556 posts)People often forget that in a two-party system, a whole lot of contradictory ideas and interests are placed under only two umbrellas. A war against contraception is an utter loser for the GOP. And so far, a war against abortion is too. In some ways I think that abortion is almost a GOP fundraising racket. They've raised piles and piles of money on it since Roe vs. Wade and in most of the country (not all, but most) they base has very little to show for 40 years worth of money and effort.
It's not going to happen. They will lose this fight and most GOP pols are probably well aware of that. It's not a brand new offensive we're seeing here, it's necessary placation in order to keep the base on board, which they are required to do every now and then.

(10,602 posts)I have seen very little kickback from GOP politicians. The ones who have kicked back have done so weak kneed from what I can tell.
Regrettably there are some Democrats who are anti contraception as well.
I am glad I do not have any children.

(20,219 posts)I must say, I wish women were a little more loud, organized and in-your-face about it--
but then again, I need to also remember that the complicit CON$$ervative media buries organized dissent.

(14,040 posts)or that would be the popular logic of it. Men will equally be effected by these laws. If a woman can't get access to affordable birth control (or any bc at all), and a guy uses a condom (or not) that is defective, he's on the hook for child support for the next however many years if she decides to keep the child (or can't access an abortion). Men should be just as upset about this development as women should be, IMO.

(11,689 posts)How many will still cheer for the red elephant team, no matter what they do? How many will think those rules are for other people until they are told, "no, this is what you voted for"?
The voting booth offers a level of privacy...and there is no box to check what sex you are! It's a guarantee that those women who have collaborated to get these laws passed or even introduced, will vote Republican...and then you can add those that will their relgious belief, and those that are members of radical anti-women's groups...traitors to their own gender!
