I just listened to the Diane Rehm briefly on NPR this AM discussing the Zimmerman case -

It went as you would expect (most of the guests were very unhappy with the outcome, one used the "logic route", supported Stand Your Ground, etc). What didn't get discussed at all was, to me, one of the root causes of all of this - gerrymandering to ensure backwards thinking Republican state politics (take my own lovely state of North Carolina for example) - which is, of course, the effect of ALEC, Koch money - at the root level, this is all about ensuring that as many guns can be sold as possible. it is about money. It is always about money. Money and power and greed. Of course, it is also about race, about hatred, about fear - but with the huge influx of ad money, it is not difficult to brainwash the masses toward whatever direction the power and money need people to go. The money can be used to scare people (which it does), or buy politicians (which it does).

Unless the money angle is attacked- be it getting rid of Citizens United, continuing to shine a bright light on ALEC, etc - it is hard to imagine how things can change for the better (unless of course something truly huge and cataclysmic and horrific finally wakes up the apathetic, propagandized masses....even then, one wonders if we've just crossed into a permanent bizarro world)....

She had an interview with Rev. Barber last Friday I think it was. She's been doing regular coverage the last two weeks. And, it's been very good.
