I have been wondering if there are any plans to occupy the halls of congress in response to the outrage of Congressman Issa and other anti-birth control, anti-woman Congressmen? Are there any plans for occupying the office of the governor of VA prior to his signing the ultrsound bill?
I am on the record here at DU as a proud supporter of OWS. We need their voices and presence again for the sake of reproductive freedom in this country.
Please, can you tell us where the movement stands with this issue?

(10,602 posts)I support OWS. Women activists need to unite with OWS. And they need to occupy state legislatures and the Capitol and demand a new ERA. The issue of inequality is now gender based. The GOP men are saying ST-U.

this is as big of an OWS issue as anything, IMO!

(2,965 posts)It was started by Marc Schwartz, MD. a psychiatrist here in Branford.
A lot of mature individuals (of a certain age) participate but there are also a lot of younger folks at the events. Its a good mix.
They have had a lecture series, including one by Jacob Hacker the Yale professor who invented the Public Option. They have held free screenings of films such as Michael Moore's "Capitalism, A Love Story" .

(2,965 posts)"Come one, come all, for the first Occupy New England regional action! Try to get there either in the morning or by noon, so you aren't late. There will likely be action from the morning until night on-site.
The massive Occupy New England March is scheduled for 2 p.m. sharp from the Occupy New Haven site on the "Upper Green" (the area bounded by College, Elm, Temple, and Chapel Streets). The march is a broad-based appeal to everyone from New England and beyond to show the 1% that we've got the numbers, and as long as inequality occupies our country and the world at large, we aren't giving up! (63,912 posts)Being a full time caregiver, it may just be too difficult for me to get away for that amount of time. All meals plus bathing, laundry and all errands are on me, so my days are pretty full of obligations. I am with you all the way tho. And perhaps I can have a more active role sometime...I sure want to.

(63,912 posts)situated about our grown daughters and our young granddaughters, from the perspective of a woman who grew up in a time of no legal, safe abortion and limited birth control options. I am mulling options about this. I live in very liberal New Haven so many of my friends are members of the same "choir" I'd be singing to! but surely there is a way that a woman such as myself can be of service in a movement dedicated to equality in this country.
Women of my generation have "hostages to the future" in our daughters and granddaughters. I do not intend to leave this planet without doing everything I can to ensure them reproductive rights. There are many restrictions on me, as an older person and as a caregiver to a disabled husband, but I do think I can make some difference here. It's just a matter of finding out how and where...
