TORONTO - A Japanese woman who claimed exposure to radiation from damaged nuclear reactors has been denied refugee status in Canada almost one year after that nation was rocked by an earthquake and tsunami that left more than 100,000 people homeless.
The womans identity has not been released by an Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) since shes seeking asylum in this country. She is among several dozen Japanese nationals who filed refugee claims to stay in Canada following the disaster and is one of the first decisions to be reached by the IRB.
The claimant feared risks of exposure to radiation, an IRB member said in a ruling. She was not convinced by the Japanese governments assurances of safety from radiation.
The woman was one of hundreds of Japanese citizens who sought refuge in other countries following the March 11, 2011 catastrophe caused by a magnitude 9.0 quake and tsunami that left more than 15,000 dead and nearly 3300 missing.

(51,076 posts)2. I'd host one of our Japanese family friends
I can move my computer back to our bedroom and let them have this end of our house, complete with their own bathroom and privacy.

(51,076 posts)4. I remember when I helped to take care of my mother in her later years
a hand full but on the days when she knew who I was and would tell me she loved me made it all worth while. Thats the memories I cherish the most.

(67,190 posts)6. Thanks for the reminder about it all being worth while because it is
I am just really lucky to have married a good and very understanding woman who doesn't mind helping me out with my mother. Without my wife I don't know what I would do.
But your right, I do love them both and they are big parts of my life.
Again, thanks for the reminder and I am sure you were a wonderful son. You should be proud. I admire and respect you very much for that.
