Vanity Fair: Guessing the sentences in GREENWALD's new SNOWDEN book

Guessing the Sentences in Glenn Greenwald’s New Edward Snowden Book

By Juli Weiner

.... Without further delay: our game! Advanced Guess the Sentences gameplay can be fairly intricate—think Bridge plus Hearts but mathier—but for purposes of greater audience participation and lack of coffee, we’ll play a simpler version this morning. The rules: one, predict the sentences in Greenwald’s forthcoming book; two, no cheating (if a player—let’s call him “John Brennan”—can have his boys hack into Greenwald’s computer and open up his Word drafts, he or she will be disqualified).

Onward!

“As upset that Edward was that he wrote The Cuckoo’s Calling, there was not much he could do about it.”

“I knew Edward was a fearful flyer, but the stress-induced month-long layover in the Moscow airport . . . I think it bordered on histrionic.”

“He’d go through the Times wedding announcements and point out the couples who’ve lied about meeting on OKCupid. I guess he’d had a lot of downtime during his time at the N.S.A.”

“We were offered the cover of Rolling Stone, but we turned it down, saying that playing into the cult-of-personality thing would overshadow the larger issue at hand. In hindsight, that was a mistake, because you know who the editors put on the cover instead? That’s right: Johnny Depp in Native-American-face.”

Your turn: what sentences do you expect/hope to see in Greenwald’s book? Play along in the comments!

"Snowden could tell by reading intercepted emails that Juli Weiner was an immature girl with serious daddy issues. Writing for Vanity Fair provided her with all the opportunity she needed to show the world how intellectually stunted her world view had become in her never ending quest to be loved by her father."

I miss DU unrec!

The "president jeb&quot Crow Shrub) thing. He's my worst nightmare, worst because, while there are plenty of deranged wingnuts out there, he might actually happen. Wow, I didn't expect to engage in a substantive discussion (it's over now, by the way), but as for "the surveillance state," it's been there for a very long time (hence no "revelations" from SNOWDEN/GREENWALD) and will be there long after you and I settle our differences (meaning "forever&quot .

Is this your idea of having fun? Is this how you get your cookies, posting stupid stuff?

You do realize that this is an expose of your personality and its inherent banality?

Gee, what intimacies of my personality are so clear to you that people who actually know me personally don't know?!1 I guess this means there's no hope for the amicability of our split. (I'm letting this go now. If you're playing last-post-"wins" YOU "win"!1)
