But, it was a staple as a teen and young adult. I learned a lot from RS Mag. There were a few years (80s???) that they became a little tabloidish, but they recovered quickly.

I remember reading my parents Rolling Stone mags when I was 10 and John Lennon and Yoko Ono were butt ass nekked on the cover!

And people are making a big stink about a terrorist on the cover?

Evidently they never seen the mag.

It's GREAT for critical thinkers.

of about 10 years ago was particularly good, detailing the nuttiness of the rapture ready crowd and the kind of influence they were exerting on the White House and throughout Congress.

I generally don't read Rolling Stone for the same reason I don't read other celebrity mags. However, once in a while it's worth picking up because of a muckraking article.

You can choose what you read and control your experience. If you choose to not read important and interesting articles because the article is published in a magazine you turn your nose up at, that is your choice and your problem. You are only selling yourself short. I wouldn't call you a snob.

I haven't read RS in many yrs. Not to worry, I haven't read any magazines in many years. Don't know exactly what political muckraking is, but it doesn't even sound good, so I'll pass. I get all my info on the net, primarily here! I think I've stepped in some of that muckraking here before, but I have one of those shoe-scapers at the door. Voila!

It is a good thing that used to be done by hard hitting journalists everywhere.

Then about 40 years ago Conservatives began handing out college scholarships to Young Republicans if they would major in journalism. At the same time Conservatives began buying up news media. Following the end of the Cold War, the CIA's propaganda team was cut and former members of that team were scooped up by Conservative media.

Even less biased media cut back on their investigative journalism for simple budgetary concerns: news is not profitable.

Rolling Stones is one of the few media outlets that still spends time and money on investigative journalism rather than just opinionated journalism.

(beat girls off with a stick), although he seemed kind of shy around girls. In the article, I think a male professor called him "gorgeous".

But, really, what does a terrorist look like? Maybe that is one of the points of the article; that we can never really be sure who could turn into a terrorist.

...and THAT is precisely why the Editorial Staff chose THAT photo for the cover.

For those who don't like their safe little World of pre-conceived notions and prejudices disturbed,
and instead prefer the warmed over droning comfort of MSM & Corporate Approved Talking Points rehashed Ad Nauseum,
Rolling Stone is NOT the magazine for you.

Any publication willing to stick it's neck out for Taibbi's research and analysis is worthy of my support.

This outrage, I'm certain, is instigated or flamed by those 1-percenters who aren't too happy with - not the latest cover, but with Rolling Stone itself. This cover gave them an opportunity to pounce.

Personally, I don't care for the cover, but there are lots of other covers I don't care for or understand.
