... The whiny, bigoted, inbred members of the Westboro Baptist Church are infamous for picketing military funerals to prove some point about pushing the boundaries of the First Amendment, because that's what their Jesus would want, or something. But today, they broke the Ninth Commandment when Margie Phelps, the daughter of church founder Fred Phelps, tweeted a photo purporting to show the church's protest in front of Whitney Houston's funeral in Newark. However, reporters for the Star-Ledger "confirmed no active protests were occurring in the place depicted by the photograph." ...

(23,761 posts)a couple of weeks ago two little boys were burned in a house fire by their father in what is a nationally high profile case (Susan Powell dissappearance) Westboro three days before the funeral said they would be coming to Washington to protest because God was punishing the state because the Governor would be sing the Marriage Equality Act two days after the funeral.
Because of this, the Pastoral Staff I work with at a United Methodist congregation in South Tacoma got to work and with in 48 hours we had 4,000+ people ready to stand up to these bigots. This pastoral staff probably put in about 60 hours on this in the three days leading up to the funeral.
Well they didn't show...but they did put the town on edge with worry and anger!
The bright side was that I had never seen the community rally so fast to protect and preserve the dignity of a solemn occassion, nor be so quick to stand up to bigots and answer the call to work for justice!
The Straight Story
(48,121 posts)TACOMA, Wash. Westboro Baptist Church may not be coming for the Powell boys' service after all. A Tweet sent from leader Fred Phelps Jr's Twitter account says "Washington trip now cancelled."
The decision apparently came after Phelps was interviewed on the conservative radio broadcast "Bobby D Show."
"Just finished interview with @bobbydshow. Bobby D. Was a real gentleman. Washington trip now cancelled."
The notoriously anti-gay church had planned to picket today's funeral for Charlie and Braden Powell. The two boys, ages 7 and 5, were killed Sunday after their father, Josh Powell, blew up his Graham, Wash.-area house when they were dropped off for a supervised visit.

(146,317 posts)would be a good idea. If we don't spread their foul press releases about what they're "going to do" and skip the press releases when they decide not to do it, and not spread the news stories about their pathetic little demonstrations, they'll stop.
Why every word from the Westboro Baptist "Church" gets posted here on DU, I will never understand.
Let's just cut them off completely. What do you say?
