Man gets 180-day sentence for fatally stabbing dog in Amherst

OBERLIN (OH) — The Danickis did everything they could to keep their dog, Maya, alive after a fatal stabbing in March.

“There was blood everywhere, he hit an artery,” Bob Danicki said Thursday in Oberlin Municipal Court. “We tried to stop the bleeding, she passed away on the way there (veterinarian hospital.)

Gerald Miller, of Lakewood, who killed the Amherst family’s dog, was then sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Miller had pleaded no contest and had been found guilty of cruelty to companion animals. He also was ordered to pay $1,000 in fines and $350 in restitution to the family.
