Pa. GOP Chair On Voter ID Law: When People Are Frightened, ‘They Don’t Vote’
The chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party complained Thursday that comments he made earlier this week about the state's voter identification law were taken out of context before saying again that fear of the proposal kept some people from making it out to the polls last year.
Pennsylvania GOP Chairman Rob Gleason is taking heat for suggesting that the attention surrounding the voter ID law, which wasn't in effect last November, sliced into President Barack Obama's margin of victory in the state. In a phone interview with television station WJAC, Gleason said his remarks were taken out of context and then reiterated essentially the original point.
"It frightened a lot of people and when people are frightened about an election, they don't vote," Gleason said.
