NYC Top Cop Ray Kelly ‘Flattered’ By Obama's Praise, DHS Talk
New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly on Wednesday sidestepped questions about whether he is interested in the job of Homeland Security Secretary.
Im flattered by the comments coming from the president, but Im not making any other comment, said Kelly on MSNBCs Morning Joe.
The Big Apples top cop has been seen as a favorite to replace outgoing Secretary Janet Napolitano, who announced earlier this month that she would step down from the post to become chief of the University of California system.
President Obama praised Kelly in an interview last week and said that he would want to know if he was interested in seeking the post.
Mr. Kelly might be very happy where he is, but if he's not, I'd want to know about it because obviously, he'd be very well-qualified for the job, Obama told Univision.
