Keeping a resurgent American industry in America
Our Buy American Mention of the Week!
by Roger Simmermaker
February 13, 2012
Silverware is one of those categories where an abundance of cheap, Chinese-made offerings abound on the shelves of retail stores across America. Many Americans believe, and understandably so, that American-made flatware simply isn't available anymore, especially since Oneida closed their last American factory nearly ten years ago.
Fortunately, Americans will no longer be stuck with the thought that they have no choice other than to sit at their dinner table at home that has been set with Chinese-made tableware.
Sherrill Manufacturing, Inc. is an American-owned company that now produces attractive and reasonably-priced tableware at the same factory that Oneida abandoned nearly a decade ago, and you can check out all their American designs at http://www.libertytabletop.com/
Liberty Tabletop is the true and complete American choice when it comes to tableware since all of their patterns are designed and manufactured in Sherrill, NY, at a plant that has a history of producing quality flatware for over a century.

(44,397 posts)confused when looking at the box.. "Made in America?" No way! Doesn't happen anymore. Sometimes I see "distributed by...." or "packaged by..." naming an American company, but actually made in America.

(9,131 posts)The 'Champlin' pattern would work well with Provencal style plates. There are some other very nice designs too.
This is a topic which should stay in G.D. because it's vital for us to support businesses which employ Americans.

(646 posts)I have never bought new flatware. I use a mixture of quality vintage stuff amassed over the years from thrift stores and yard sales. This is a product that should never need replacing. Most of my 'silverware' is likely over 50 years old.

(9,740 posts)I still use mostly Made in the USA flatware but my set dates back to the 70's. I would like to get something new and I keep avoiding the Chinese made silverware.
