Lawrence O'Donnell just allowed former Sen. Mike Dewine

to state that because of pre-natal testing, 90% of Down Syndrome babies are aborted in the US.

Lawrence never asked where he got this info, what study cited these numbers or in anyway disputed his claim.......I'm feeling so discouraged!

...Until this year, only pregnant women 35 and older were routinely tested to see if their fetuses had the extra chromosome that causes Down syndrome...But under a new recommendation from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, doctors have begun to offer a new, safer screening procedure to all pregnant women...

About 90 percent of pregnant women who are given a Down syndrome diagnosis have chosen to have an abortion.

Convinced that more couples would choose to continue their pregnancies if they better appreciated what it meant to raise a child with Down syndrome, a growing group of parents...are pressing obstetricians to send them couples who have been given a prenatal diagnosis...to meet their children...

A dwindling Down syndrome population, which now stands at about 350,000, could mean less institutional support and reduced funds for medical research. It could also mean a lonelier world for those who remain...

Well, well! I didn't realize that the world is owed people with Down's syndrome! And if Mr. DeWine is so upset about it, I presume he's vigorously fighting for the funding and resources that will make the lives of Down's parents a lot easier!

And this article is nearly five years old, to boot -- no doubt that percentage has only crept upward...

That must be why Lawrence didn't challenge Dewine.

If more disabled are born, more disabled are going to need support, programs, benefits, etc. WTF is the point of only caring about the disabled until they are born?
