David Cross admits to doing cocaine near President Obama during White House dinner

David Cross is coming clean with a shocking confession that he snorted cocaine at a White House event, with President Barack Obama sitting just feet away.

The comedian has admitted it before, but in a new interview with Playboy magazine, he divulges all the dirty details.

"It wasn't even that much cocaine. It was literally the size of, I don't know, a tick," said Cross, who attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2009.

“I ducked under the table and did it. It wasn’t like I got high. The jolt was similar to licking an empty espresso cup. It wasn't about that. It was just about being able to say that I did it, that I did cocaine in the same room as the President,” he told the magazine.

Much like Louie Anderson, Tom Greene and Will Ferrell, it seems like he tries too hard and comes up too short. Some people think Tom, Will, etc. are geniuses - it doesn't work for me. Then again, I grew up watching the masters of comedy - Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Jonathan Winters, Mel Brooks, etc.

This stupid stunt does nothing to elevate him.

"Rock and Roll icon Grace Slick recently did an interview with Leah Pietrusiak of Time Out Chicago and spoke about trying to slip then President of the United States Richard Nixon some acid.

Leah: Okay, tell me about trying to slip Richard Nixon acid at the White House.

Grace Slick: See, Trish Nixon’s daughter went to Finch College, and it was so small that she invited all of the alumni to a tea at the White House. But my name when I went there was Grace Wing, that doesn’t mean anything right? Now, Grace Slick meant something.

So I get an invitation to the White House and I call up Abbie Hoffman and say [Sing-songy] “Guess what I have….I’ve got an invitation to the White House.” So I put 600 mics of acid under a long fingernail I had for cocaine, and we go and we’re standing in line, and the security guard comes up to me and says, “I’m sorry you can’t go in. You’re a security risk.” And I go, “What?!” And he says, “You’re on the FBI list.” And I go, “What?!?!” And I found out that the members of Jefferson Airplane were on a list because of “suspect lyrics.”

They didn’t know why I was a security threat, but they were right.
"

---------------------------

I grew up in the '60s/'70s and thought The Airplane's music was pretty good, and Grace? Let's just say her and I had an "intimate" relationship even though we'd probably never been in the same county at the same time, not to mention the age difference.

But wow, just fucking WOW... this ASS thought she was cool, and she could have actually lit the fuse that exploded the "bomb(s)" that brought the FUCKING world to an end, seeing as how the guy with "the football" was never more than a few dozen feet away from Richard Nixon.

those DC get togethers are fancy affairs and the idea of a drug bust is unthinkable. I'm sure the security looks the other way quite often.

On the other hand, don't try it at a low-income public high school.

He displays a lack of intelligence when he 1) feels the need to snort cocaine at a function with a high level of security, 2) did only a tick's worth of coke so he could make the claim. That is the mind of a high school student without any comprehension of life experiences.

The President invites you to attend a function, and you pull a narccisistic stunt like this just so 'you can say that you did it'

you put the president who invited you at risk of a tabloid story in an election year, and in a close election, you could influence the results, not because the president is good, or because the president is bad, but because you're a jerkoff

99%+ of the time, comedy is about cruelty and / or stupidity. Whether it is making fun of others, or making fun of themselves, comedians tend to be sadistic. And successful comedians, much like politicians, are arrogant self-promoters.

So the thought that this is about selling tickets makes complete sense.

Tue Feb 21, 2012, 01:09 AM
Feb 2012

The White House Correspondents Dinner is held (if I'm not mistaken) at the Washington Hilton, not at the White House. Though the president traditionally attends, it isn't really a White House dinner.

On edit: the article is a bit ambiguous, so perhaps it isn't *the* WHCD but some other function held for Correspondents at the White House. But my guess is that there is a confusion in these stories making it sound like it was actually at the White House when it (likely) wasn't.

He told Playboy that he'd enlisted girlfriend Amber Tamblyn, who'd been invited to the dinner and brought Cross as her guest, to watch.

“I need a witness,” he told her.

While Cross said he’s neither proud nor ashamed of doing drugs in the President’s presence, he does admit to being sorry he brought Tamblyn down “by association.”

“I was her date, her plus-one, and she got dragged through the mud because of what I did,” he said. “She had nothing to do with it. She didn’t know I was going to do it. And because of that, she’ll never be invited to the White House again. That’s not cool.”

She invited him to join her at a WH dinner, and because he dragged her into it, she will now never again be invited to a WH dinner.

Maybe she should look for a new boyfriend--one who gives a damn about how his juvenile antics affect her.

Okay, folks, David Cross is an ass and did something idiotic. But what is TRULY idiotic is our stupid decades-long assault on the Bill of Rights under the auspices of the $60 Billion-a-year "drug war".

Consenting adults should be free to do as they damn well please with their own bodies and bloodstreams. I'm sure there were people at that dinner far more dangerously inebriated on Jack Daniels than David Cross was off his tick-sized spot of cocaine.

is well earned. I wish the whole crowd had toked up. The war on drugs and its supporters should be mocked, shamed, ridiculed, and made to look foolish and/or ignored often. Their goofy ass positions made to look silly or given all the focus and comprehension of adults on Charlie Brown.

Very stupid, Mr. Cross. Just as deserved on this. Maybe you can't beat stupid with stupid but I see no argument that the response isn't deserved.

When running a society like a private middle school, such behavior is encouraged or maybe even demanded. Our own national stupidity creates the attraction and incited the immature rebellious response.
