Extra police detail called after anti-gay attack at Bridgewater State University
BRIDGEWATER — When the school play, “A New Brain,” opens Thursday, Bridgewater State University students say there will be extra police details on scene because two characters on stage are a gay couple.
Students involved with the play say they are taking precautions after 20-year-old student journalist Destinie Mogg-Barkalow was punched Thursday for writing an editorial in favor of gay marriage, an action that triggered a police investigation and an uprising from the student body.
“This stuff shouldn’t be happening,” Margaret Leahy, an actor in “a New Brain,” said Monday.
Leahy, 21, labeled the recent attack on a fellow student “disheartening” and “disappointing.”
