This election and the GOP primary is more about RACE than religion...

Think about it... the GOP's core are evangelical/white voters.

There isn't an evangelical (or a mainstream protestant) amongst the three frontrunners...

Frothy = Catholic

Mittens = Mormon (a group which most evangelical Repugs hate more than they hate liberals)

GinGrinch = Catholic

Two Catholics... remember all the crap Kennedy went through for being Catholic. But all that is gone from this contest. GOP voters aren't questioning Gingrich or Frothy about their faith the way JFK was questioned.

One would think that if religion were the prime mover in this election the GOOP would have picked a protestant or evangelical like Prick Erry or Batshit Bachmann... based on the GOP's demographics.

There's been some de-evolution since the Kennedy days, but generally, It's OK If You're A Republican.
I don't think the party really has a reliable set of standards you can hang on them anymore (other than making the rich richer) and they hang back to see what their opponent is FOR in order to see what they're against.

They've been focusing on denying the votes to black voters by purging voter polls, passing voter ID bills, etc. By focusing on race they missed the fact that they've alienated women with their right wing vitriol concerning birth control, abortion, etc. So now they have guaranteed black voters will vote Dem and they've moved women to vote GOP to protect their rights and bodies. Sooner or later the only group left in support of the GOP will be white redneck males. Basically the same demographic group Pabst Blue Ribbon markets to. And you have an idea what their share of the beer market is.
