Sheriff Babeu Tried To Hide His Relationship By Blaming Comments On His "Mentally Ill Sister"

Here's one little detail from the whole Paul Babeu saga that hasn't gotten much attention, but which my fellow blogger-in-arms James L took note of. The Phoenix New Times article which broke the story about Babeu—the Republican Arizona sheriff running for Congress who allegedly threatened to deport a former lover if he failed to keep their relationship secret—included this passage about Jose, Babeu's ex:

Jose admits that he lashed out on news websites featuring stories about Babeu. He says he commented anonymously that the sheriff was not who people thought he was. He says he once wrote a comment on Chino Valley eNews that Babeu had an account on adam4adam.com, where gay men arrange sexual liaisons.

The comment in question was posted back in January, long before the New Times piece exploded on to the scene this past weeked. When the comment appeared, though, eNews attempted to follow up on the story with Babeu's campaign, and this is what they were told:

However, in that Phoenix New Times article, there is mention of a comment that was left on one of the eNewsAZ networked websites. When that comment, dated January 7, 2012, was posted, it was immediately deleted by the eNewsAZ editorial staff due to the nature of the content.

At the time, we asked Chris DeRose, Babeu's campaign manager, about the comment, and he responded that Babeu had a sister with a mental illness who was posting comments like this on various websites. We had already deleted the comment, so we pursued it no further.

Did you catch that? Babeu, in trying to hide his relationship with Jose, tried to blame these comments on his mentally ill sister. What a guy.

Hope you are well. I just noticed this site and Joined. I want to thank you for saying what you did about my brother Paul. He has done everything he could to ruin my life and blaming me for everything. There is so much more to this story that people don't even know. He paid his lawyer Chris DeRose $35,000 a month and put cease and desist orders on me, so I would not put the truth out on him. I am for gay rights. Paul is not, he changes his age on this nude site to make himself younger and has done this for years. Paul and my family has threatened my life if I let all the secrets out of Paul and the rest of my brothers being pediphilors, rapists, abusers etc. Paul does not know what being gay means. He is not for gay rights, he is out to use young males and threatens them to shut their mouth. I have been contacted by numerous lovers of his and feel bad that I cannot help them. Paul is protecting one brother that has raped me and also has raped Paul himself and other members in the family and community. He does this because he is afraid of being exposed for who he really is. For Paul to call me mentally ill he is attacking another group of people. This is no right. I have PTSD for being raped by my grandfather, brother and the priest. I am not ashamed to say that. My family is against me because I speak out about it. I do not want this to be passed on to the next generation. We have another rapist brother that raped two of my sisters that Paul is protecting and I have been threatened by the family if I mention it I will be killed. I will not stop talking because of these threats. I am the only person in the family that talks about it. I am paying a dear price because of it. They took away my children after I raised them for 20years with a lie. Now my mom is dying and I am not allowed to see her. My mom is the only person that tried to stop the abuse. Paul will be caught someday going with younger boys. It is just a matter of time. I just want people to realize I support gay rights. I just don't support Paul going with males and abusing them, telling them he loves them and tossing them aside with threats of not telling. That is abuse, gay males are more then sex, they are people that deserve respect, love and the same rights as heterosexuals.

Hello la la,
Hope you are doing well. I did leave a comment there because Paul, his lawyer Chris DeRose and even the writer of the article were all on it together. They were trying to hide Jose. They were threatening Jose and he was blogging about it. They erased his comment which no one saw, and in it's place they write they much be me his mental ill sister. To me, that was a terrible thing to do. First of all, I appreciate you saying it was a good comment. That was a cheap shot on all their part. They attack me, but worse of all they attack a whole group of people saying "mentally ill" . I do have PTSD which Paul also has from being raped by my brother John who Paul is protecting. Paul himself was raped by him and so were many other members in my family. Plus he used to beat my mother all the time while we were growing up. And there is a warrant out for his arrest in Florida. A lot of people have a mental illness who are in the military, or who have anxiety, or Alzheimer's etc. Plus, I did not write any blog. Paul was just trying to hide Jose who was Mexican. Jose is actually a very nice person. Paul was just going to look like a fool since he was against illegal immigration. Paul is not for gay rights. Paul uses males and goes with many at the same time and does not tell them. He like the younger ones and that is why he goes on the nude websites and lowers his ages. Paul has been doing this for years and is lucky the police have no caught him yet. Paul is a nasty person who does not take responsibility for anything he does. I am for supporting gay rights, and this is why it angers me he abusing all this men and tosses them aside like a piece of meat and threatens the hell out of them.

comments on these articles, and she does claim to be his sister. She said that he is trying to slander her in order to shut her up, and the she is NOT mentally ill.

Her comments make it sound like he's a sociopath.

This could get even more interesting.

Paul has other lovers he has threatened when he broke up with him. I have been threatened by my father through Paul. Paul has told my family not to talk to me. Paul is spreading slander comments about me along with his lawyer Chris as you see above that I am mentally ill. Paul and his lawyer are now attacking another group of people. They are so stupid. The truth stands, no matter what lies they say about me. I will not back down from their lies and threats.Lucy Babeu

Hope you are doing well. I appreciate you putting this article out there for people to read. My brother Paul and his lawyer Chris DeRose are so bad to use me in this manner. It is true what you wrote. People need to know the truth about how they erased Jose blogs and put down comments about me being mentally ill. I felt bad for Jose because he was being harassed by the two of them for a long time. No one knows the whole story. Paul was paying his lawyer Chris DeRose $35,000 a month to put out false stuff on both Jose and me. Both of them, for three years, were going to all the newspaper and threatening them with cease and desist orders on me or if they did not going along, they threatened to dig up dirt on them. Paul is not for gay rights. That is why he lowers his age on the nude sites. He is after younger boys and goes with as many as possible. Then bribes them to shut their mouth I support people for gay rights and also and a victims advocate. I was severely raped by a brother in my family who Paul is protecting. Also, I was raped by my grandfather just like two other sister from the age of four on, and by the family priest. Our oldest brother raped my two sisters. You may thing this all sounds insane but it is all true. I am the only person who has been in counseling every week for 18 years. My whole family has threaten to kill me if I let these secrets out. I will not stop. It is a criminal act when Paul is a Sheriff and he protects my brothers who are rapists and one has a warrant out on him. And this is just hitting the surface of my family issues. They took my kids away over a lie after I raised them for 20 years by myself. And now the most tragic thing is my poor mother is dying and they will not let me see her. She is the only person who tried to help me as a child. Paul will pay the price for this someday. If people have suggestions how I can see my mom when it is me against the whole family, I welcome any ideas or help. Thanks again for writing this article and telling people the truth.
