A final reflection upon the day...

Here's a refresher on the issue:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3334347

Here's where I have been today:

Downtown Justice Court
-Court C
-Court Customer Service

Neither the police officer nor the judge knew the relevant law even though it has been legal for roughly 12 months. The book of statutes the judge used in making his decision was printed in 2009. I explained to him that the law was amended last year and that his copy was outdated. He basically told me tough shit.

I did end up producing a paper copy of my insurance before the 5 PM deadline and the charge was dismissed.

The Arizona State House of Representatives
-Chief Clerk's officer for the Arizona State House of Representatives

I looked at the actual law books, held them in my hand, and saw with my own two eyes all of the information pertaining to the amended law. Made a photo copy. The Chief Clerk then told me to go to the AG to file a complaint.

The Office of Attorney General

I spoke to a representative of the AG and was told that there was essentially nothing they could do and that I should personally contact the judge.

I attempted to look up the personal contact information of the judge to no avail. So I will have to contact the court and request that information.

The Department of Public Safety Headquarters
-Human Resources
-Duty Office

I attempted to file a complaint against the officer who cited me but the officer at the counter essentially attempted to tell me that no such complaint system existed. I relented and he eventually became so frustrated that he gave me the information for the local police station and told me to go there to file the complaint. So I went to the station.

The Department of Public Safety University Station

I was informed that because Officer Christopher Romero was a Sergeant, I needed to contact his captain who apparently is not at the station. So I will call the captain tomorrow to file a complaint. Although this complaint will likely be ignored precisely because I could not demonstrate the officers negligence in court.

-----------------------

All in all, a day of extreme frustration. To have so many roadblocks to obtain some minute level of justice on such a petty issue is disheartening. I can only imagine how much more difficult this would be if the issue at hand was of greater importance.

The conclusion from all of this is that there must be some sort of barrier to communication between the law makers of this state and the law enforcers. There is no structured system of accountability. At nearly every turn I was met with ignorance, indifference or malice. It seems as though the nicest individuals I met had zero authority and the harshest individuals had all the authority in the world.

They would only mistakenly use it to help others and we can't have that in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Accountability is only for the powerless in America, the more powerful you are the less accountability you are subject to and those with no power are subject to the harshest possible accountability.

Has this experience swayed your mind either way in regard to trusting the government to do the right thing?

Although I haven't been flinging poo, I've always been on the side of the whistleblower.

Especially when I know that more people will get screwed over just like I did. Something needs to be done.
