I may get this hidden, however at this moment, I don't care.
Um, thought priestess were supposed to be celibate?? Either way??? No matter what. No SEX! Isn't that what celibate means??? Does this mean the pope is gay???
I have no clue, however it struck my as fucked up. Being a Catholic and being a Preists or Nun, means to be celibate, correct??? Is just messing with my mind.

(29,149 posts)Do you think gay people can't be celibate? Why would this mean the pope is gay?

(62,444 posts)So, yes, whether a priest is gay or straight has been irrelevant in terms of sexual conduct. As I understand it, it has long been their position that sexual orientation is not as much of an issue among priests, so long as there is no sexual conduct - be it gay, straight, or what-have-you.
Just as long as they aren't women, it's okay.

(53,034 posts)They are supposed to be celibate. They often aren't, however. Historically, celibacy was interpreted to mean marriage. Priests regularly had live-in lovers. It's only in the past 150 years or so that celibacy has come to mean no sexual contact or intimacy.
