Yesterday, I visited a local eco attraction that was built around a unique gator concept. It was a boat camp/restaurant/outdoor bar where you find both locals and tourists. Unlike Disney or the other Central Florida attractions, you won't find more than two or six tourist at a time because outsiders usually come for the Air boat ride. It's really off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Around the area there are probably more than a handful of survivalists. It's very original Florida.
Anyway, we arrived at an awkward time and had to sit around waiting for the airboat captain to get a bite to eat and refuel. In that time there was music piping in over the loudspeaker. I heard hardcore country music, which I expected. Lots of it. But what I didn't expect to hear was hardcore rap music with all the "N" words intact. Country music definitely outnumbered the rap music by about six to one.
I was just wondering if the selection had been intentional. We had been there the night before and it was far more Jimmy Buffet style music than the mix we heard in the afternoon.

(10,960 posts)a lot of times nowadays the music one hears in various places isn't from anything as formal as a radio or a service, but just whatever is on somebody's ipod. (must drive ASCAP crazy)
And that kind of eclectic mix in a person's tastes is more and more common. (I know a place where the biggest audience response is for Redneck Woman and Get Low.)

(46,716 posts)Thanks for telling me about ASCAP. Never heard about it before. I just don't expect to hear the "N" word dropped where there is a high likelihood of small children around.

(46,716 posts)are. The locals have kept that place afloat. I like to take people there because of the eco experience. It's very unique. Usually, we're in and out within an hour and we stay out of the bar where you're likely to bump into bikers. Most of that hour is on the water. The worst you'll hear politically is the captain bemoaning our tax dollars being wasted on the restoration of the very lake that maintains his livelihood!
