Remember 50-60 years ago, when rock music was "from the Devil?"

Apparently John Hagee still thinks that...

It may be 2013, but that doesn't mean that Satan has updated his methods of corrupting America's youth, as John Hagee explained in his Sunday sermon this week in which he warned his congregation, yet again, that if they read Harry Potter books they are "opening the gates of your mind to the Prince of Darkness and he will invade, and once he's invited in, he doesn't go out until he is cast out." Even more dangerous, Hagee warned, is that infernal rock and roll music, which "is nothing more than Satanic cyanide" that needs to be taken outside of the home and burned:

"They've got to buy them before they can burn them." -- George Harrison

"They that start by burning books will end by burning men."
--Heinrich Heine (1797-1856), from his play Almansor (1821)

May 10, 1933 - An event unseen since the Middle Ages occurs as German students from universities formerly regarded as among the finest in the world, gather in Berlin and other German cities to burn books with "unGerman" ideas. Books by Freud, Einstein, Thomas Mann, Jack London, H.G. Wells and yes Heinrich Heine, including many others go up in flames as they give the Nazi salute.
