"20-25. If I was defense I'd argue for 5-10 and if I was pros I'd argue for 50-60."

"And 20 would likely result in an actual 6-8 w/time served, extra credit, good time & parole."

No more parole. Good time for 20 years would reduce the sentence to 17 years and 5 months. I don't know what the so-called "extra credit" is.

A third group of offenders on parole are military offenders. Servicemembers who have been convicted within the military criminal justice system and who have been confined in military prison are routinely released to parole and supervised release. Nationwide, federal probation officers supervise nearly 350 persons on military parole.

But it does not indicate under what conditions military prisoners are granted parole. I highly doubt a 20-25 year sentence referred to in the OP would be reduced to 6-8.

This kid is going to spend most of his life in jail. The war criminals he uncovered will spend their lives in luxury.

Mendez (U.N. rapporteur for human rights) notwithstanding, in the threads that initially announced the verdict. So I'm glad to see I am not alone in my sentiments.

Maybe a future president will pardon him, and he won't have to serve a ton of years. I don't think Obama has the cojones to do this, so it would have to be a future president.

Manning and Snowden as demonstration projects to other putative whistle-blowers that there is a heavy price to be paid in this society for telling the truth. Manning will hardly serve as a demonstration project if they let him off with time served now.
