Christie slams Rand Paul by accusing Kentucky of being a leech on the federal government

I wish more Democrats would point this out about red states. They use more than their fair share of Federal money, it's certainly not just Kentucky.

“I find it interesting that Senator Paul is accusing us of having a gimme, gimme, gimme attitude toward federal spending when in fact New Jersey is a donor state, we get 61 cents back on every dollar we send to Washington,” Christie said. “And interestingly Kentucky gets $1.51 on every dollar they sent to Washington.”

“So if Senator Paul wants to start looking at where he is going to cut spending to afford defense, maybe he should start looking at cutting the pork barrel spending he brings home to Kentucky at a $1.51 on every dollar and not look at New Jersey where we get 61 cents for every dollar,” he continued. “Maybe Senator Paul could deal with that when he is trying to deal with the reduction of spending on the federal side, but I doubt he would because most Washington politicians only care about bringing home the bacon so they can get reelected.”

About time someone pointed out to these Southern Republicans just who's on the receiving end of all that Federal dough.
Of course, this means Christie will never be President. Personally I find this somewhat troubling, as sooner or later a Republican will win the WH, and I'd rather it be someone like Christie rather than someone like Paul. But I have a feeling the next Republican Prez, whoever that person winds up being, is going to be closer to Paul.

i agree that red states should not be denied aid such as during things like hurricanes, tornadoes , or other disasters.

but sometimes people are attacked just for bringing up the hypocrisy of their state officials .

He says things that are in your face, and mean. But he does have the guts to say things like that, and that is a rare quality in politics. Does not beat around the bush, or uses obscure double talk like "economic freedom".

vote with the slave states on every issue. They may not have joined the Confederacy, but today they align themselves with slave states, and have done so since Nixon employed the Southern strategy. Any way you cut it, Republicans are white supremacists at heart and fantasize about slave ownership. Because Kentucky politics is Republican dominated it is a defacto slave state. It's so larded over with pork it may as well have been in the Confederacy.

Rand had already hurt himself in NJ if gets the Republican candidacy. Then Christie turns around and hurts himself in Kentucky if he is the candidate. I am now persuaded that neither of these guys is ready for prime time.

But Rand would never be able to win NJ. NJ always votes Democratic for president. Christie could put it in play (in fact I think if Christie won NJ he would win the election because the Democratic candidate could not make up the electoral votes elsewhere). But Rand could never win it.

and if Paul is running, won't win the state anyway. In the GE, should Christie get the GOP nod, Kentucky is his. Romney took Kentucky with 60%. Good luck finding a Dem nominee that can win in that state.

Christie is tossing Kentucky under the bus as a way of trying to appeal to centrists and moderates. It's his Sister Souljah moment.

How is that not smart?

First praising Obama after Sandy. No going after wingnut darling Rand Paul, AND daring to point out red state tax hypocricy/leeching?

Not that I ever thought he had a chance but at this point he's toast for even getting the nomination. He'll be the Rudy Gulliani of 2016.
