Footage from First U.S. Gay Marriage from 1971!

Jack Baker and Michael McConnell were 70s-era pioneers.

Come the stroke of midnight Thursday, August 1, Minnesota will be the 12th state in the union to allow same-sex marriage. (Rhode Island too will legalize equality at that time.)

Before that, though, local CBS affiliate WCCO shared video from the 1971 marriage of Jack Baker and Michael McConnell, two Minnesota men whose nuptials are thought to be the first in the nation. While the Minnesota Supreme Court later denied the validity of their vows, the men are still together and told WCCO they will not have another ceremony because they're already married.

It says the license was never revoked but the State Supreme court said it was illegal. I would also like to know.

Or they could renew their vows but it could be considered a legal wedding by the state.

I consider myself intelligent, but being denied this basic right for so long even has me confused to everthing that is changing.
