Israeli company ‘Verint’ to win Indian mass cyber surveillance contract

An Israeli based internet surveillance company ‘Verint Systems‘ is all set to win a contract from Department of Telecommunications, government of India to assist it with encrypted internet communications services such as Skype, Hotmail, Gmail and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry (RIM) amid growing cyber security concerns in the country.

EconomicTimes reports that a team of Verint Systems met Indian communications minister Kapil Sibal in Israel, showing its interest in working with the Indian government and assist them by intercepting all kinds of encrypted communication to overcome India’s growing concern over cyber security.

A note that has been reviewed by ET confirms that:

Verint is willing to work with the Indian government to address the issue of intercepting encrypted communications like Gmail, Yahoo-. mail and others. It will shortly co-ordinate with DoT’s security wing and CERT-In teams to implement a customised interception solution.

It will help Indian intelligence agencies to track all sorts of encrypted communication which was beyond their capability of tracking in past.

The company has supplied an interception solution for tracking encrypted communications to 77 countries and is known for its mass surveillance systems deployment in countries like Mexico, Vietnam, US and Côte d’Ivoire
