Did anyone else watch this very historical documentary last night?
They included several 8mm home movies in the documentary, with voiceovers of the taped conversations from Nixon's White House playing over some of the scenes.
I think that some of the 8mm home movies are from former aides to Nixon, and they were never seen publicly before.
It's amazing footage, to be sure.
They also had interviews with many of Nixon's former aides after they had served time in prison.
There is no doubt about it, this is one of the best documentary movies I have ever seen about Nixon and his involvement in the Watergate scandal.
Since the Republicans have been speaking of scandals so much lately, I thought I would remind everyone here that Watergate was the scandal of the century back in the 1970s.
It brought down the worst President in the history of the United States, up until that time.
(George Dubya superseded Nixon by leaps and bounds 27 years later).
If you get a chance, you should watch this documentary.
It's on again Sunday night and should be repeated several times this month.

(17,199 posts)Too funny ... Nixon saw an episode of "All In The Family" and thought it was a MOVIE. The person on the line with him had to explain it was a TV show. Then Nixon went on about how the hardhat (Archie) was poorly portrayed and the hippie son-in-law (Mike) was made heroic.
Then it got really interesting. Nixon claimed the show (All In The Family) was promoting homosexuality and said that it was homosexuality that brought down the Greeks and Romans and would bring America down too. He even used the word "fags" when talking about this subject.
Nixon was one SICK Mother Fucker!

(2,667 posts)What I found interesting in hearing him talk about the "documentary" was that there was no new footage shot. It was made completely, according to him, from archival film. He also noted that the focus of the film (can you still use that word?) was on the Aides rather than Nixon himself. It sounded very interesting but I missed the original showing. I will be looking for a replay of it based on your post. Thanks!

And: he had *opposition*. He was challenged *hard* by MSM and the Demo-friggin'-cratic Party.
WTF happened to the opposition ?!?!

(17,199 posts)You listen to his phone conversations (the tapes) and you would think they were coming from members of today's Tea Party.

(650 posts)I truly despised that bastard.
I was court-martialed in Vietnam for speaking poorly of our C-in-C. "Insubordination", they called it.
