So, when its Caspian Sea rig blew out in 2008, rather than change its ways, BP simply covered it up.

Manning could have saved their lives
Only after I dove into deep water in Baku did I discover, trolling through the so-called "WikiLeaks" documents, secret State Department cables released by Manning. The information was stunning: the US State Department knew about the BP blow-out in the Caspian and joined in the cover-up.
...
Had Manning's memos come out just a few months earlier, the truth about BP's deadly drilling methods would have been revealed, and there's little doubt BP would have had to change its ways. Those eleven men could well have been alive today.
...
Did Manning know about this particular hush-hush cable about BP's blow-out when he decided he had to become Paul Revere and warn the planet?
That's unlikely, in the thousands of cables he had. But he'd seen enough evidence of murder and mendacity in other cables, so, as Manning, under oath, told a court, he tried to give it all to the New York Times to have knowledgeable reporters review the cables confidentially for life-saving information.
The New York Times immediately seized on this extraordinary opportunity to ignore Manning. The Times only ran it when the Guardian was going to scoop and embarrass the New York hacks.
...
What other lives could have been saved by the Manning revelations? Lots. Watch this space: I promise more aid to the enemies of the state which is YOU.

(30,058 posts)Interrupt, just saying. To even think Manning releasing this information might have prevented the tragedy is just further than the stretch of the imagination.

(55,745 posts)I know I am.
Regarding this one, BP acted in a criminally negligent manner in its drilling practices, which would later kill 11 workers plus pollute the Gulf of Mexico. Nevertheless, the US government continues to give BP every benefit of the doubt, instead of treating them like the criminal organization WikiLeaks reveals them to be.

(30,058 posts)Manning could have prevented the tragedy of the Deepwater Horizon. I also tire of this type of crap being related to other events. If you want to show Manning did something good at least get something which might be related and believable. I also understand quiet well about pollution and how important the Gulf of Mexico is to those in my immediate area since I live on the gulf coast. If WikiLeaks wants to reveal criminal activity they should get Assauge to give all the details of his criminal activity but I don't expect to see any of that revealed.

I'm in favor of using whatever trumped up charge is available to get this guy (Assange) and his servers off the streets. And I'd feed that shit head soldier (Manning) to the first pack of wild dogs I could find.

(55,745 posts)Frank shouted down Alexis Goldstein for bringing up the corrupt practices of US State Department on behalf of Big Business revealed by WikiLeaks. Frank said people were exposed and endangered. Goldstein said testimony before Congress revealed no one hurt. If they had had Palast's info, the discussion may've gotten even more interesting.

(55,745 posts)No surprise, but I was very much saddened to see someone I admire so exposed.
NSA must have an extensive photographic collection to go along with its audio take.

(26,449 posts)Back in the day when the call boys were reported to be at the white house visiting Poppy. IIRC the rumours, apparently there were some parties on the hill that got pretty god damned freaky involving kids.
It wouldn't surprise me if the parties weren't honeypots to collect photos. Even if the photos weren't explicit of any given subject they would be incriminating by association at such a party. Even if the subject had no idea at the time of the activities happening elsewhere at the party.

However, as you know, Hoot-san, NSA turned on the USA means everyone and everyone they know and everywhere they go is a liable opportunity.

Barney did badger the witness.
