Simply because its the same old shit.
Anything Ted Nugent... pass....

Their act bores the shit out of me.

(26,602 posts)Once it becomes clear that a thread has no hope of providing any value, interest, or entertainment - off to the round file!
As I think about it, though, when I trash an unneeded piece of paper in my office I get to wad it up and play a little recycle-bin basket-ball. DU would be much improved if a game of skill was incorporated into the 'Trash Thread' button; maybe a little mouse-click mash-a-mole, or a mini-golf game, or something...

(56,912 posts)Some of the topics that DU is still hashing out are just retreads with the same thing being said by the same people ad nauseaum.
It gets old to me. YMMV.
You see the icon in the bottom left hand corner of the OP, right?
Also on the page each OP has a little x at the end. That accomplishes the same thing.
Enjoy!

(26,582 posts)Go to "My Account" and then the "Trash Can" tab and you can add by keyword!
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,681 posts)Those always turn into insane flame wars.
Also, threads relating to Snowden, Greenwald or Assange.
And threads about who should run for President in 2016.
There are also certain posters whose OPs I don't read.

(3,539 posts)or I might be afraid of I'd be a republican.
Yes some things annoy me.
Yes I'm tired of hearing about Snowden.
Can we just gift Russia with Zimmerman and be done with him?
Thing is, it's like the real world, you don't know what's gonna happen till you open the door. You don't know what it is until you open the OP.
And if it's something that just isn't well........
That's why they put that little x on the tab.

(1,044 posts)I hid anything to do with George Zimmerman for months before and during the trial. Almost all gun threads, most Snowden/Greenwald threads.
There are some posters whose threads I ignore, unless I click on them without first noticing who started it. And my favorites to trash are the ones where somebody is commenting about what's happening on MSNBC right now, but don't give any real info ... "OMFG! Tweety is seriously pissing me off!!!@!!". Similarly, a provoking title, that when clicked on, just contains a link to some other site, without a word of explanation. Those all get trashed asap.

(65,616 posts)No reason to, it will be the same thing I've seen a million times in a thread. So I skip a lot now. Nobody wants to read the National Review here or by now people should be sick of the people that do imo.

(20,600 posts)Yea, tons. I'm picky about what threads interest me. I agree about Nugent though. Most gun threads I'll skip. Most "what a cute animal" threads I'll skip.

(82,383 posts)OK legalize it, but if not, I'm just not that interested. Don't use the stuff and don't care whether it's legal or not. I get there are medicinal uses and that will likely lead to it becoming illegal, but not with right wingers in power.
Ted Nugent is a train wreck, so his latest shenanigans can be interesting.

(14,040 posts)there is nothing he does that is worth discussing IMO.
I also used to immediately trash anything from grahamanything (I think that was the username) but he's since been tombstoned (if I messed up the username, I apologize).

(11,175 posts)RudynJack (#12) mentioned the ones like "Tweety is seriously pissing me off right now." Some are even worse, like "You have to read this" -- absolutely no clue about whether the subject is one that I want to spend time on. I almost never click on those.
Other than that, it's somewhat dependent on my mood. Sometimes, criticizing Fox seems like shooting fish in a barrel, and there's no point. Other times, maybe I'm depressed and want to feel superior to someone, I'll click on those threads eagerly.
Overall, I'd say I click on about 10% of the posts on Greatest, and I very rarely venture off Greatest.
Nay
(12,051 posts)Edit: add Nugent to the list, and 99% of gun threads. I generally don't do videos either, unless they are short ones of cute kittehs or the like.

(2,424 posts)That I don't trash or ignore.
I do, however, make it a point to counter often.
The gun stuff.....sheesh. Been beaten to death.
The only place I will become greatly invested to it now is at the ballot box.
