Way worse than NSA fears 2: Illegal body cavity searches of women standard policy at Texas

Lawyer representing women who faced “unconstitutional” cavity searches of their genitals at traffic stops in Texas last year have said that the practice is essentially standard practice in many jurisdictions.

In two separate cases last year, four women said that they were humiliated with illegal cavity searches on the side of Texas highways. Angel Dobbs, 38, and her 24-year-old niece, Ashley Dobbs were searched after a trooper saw them throw a cigarette butt out the car window. And Brandy Hamilton, 27, and Alexandria Randle, 26, were searched after a trooper claimed he smelled marijuana.

“It’s ridiculous,” Dallas attorney and former police officer Peter Schulte told The New York Daily News. “We would never put our hands anywhere near someone’s private parts… When I saw that video I was shocked. I was a law enforcement officer for 16 years and I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Then how come there haven't been lots of lawsuits, and not just two? Not doubting, just wondering.

The Attorneys have had additional calls since the first video went viral. Watch for more cases to come up.

Is a lot easier to say then Legalized Sexual Molestation is.

It takes a really disturbed kind of person to think that actions that would otherwise be defined as sexual assault can be used to protect the public.

In both cases, the male officers were suspended and the female officers that actually did the cavity searches were immediately fired. In the first case of Angel and Ashly Dobbs the male officer was also brought up on charges for theft since he stole one of the women's prescription meds out of her purse when he illegally searched the car while she was being assaulted by the female officer, and the female officer in that case was not only fired but was charged with sexual assault. All four of the officers are state troopers that work for the same state police department which reacted very quickly in the firings, suspensions and charges. How can this be a state police department policy (which is just too ridiculous) when they were the ones that immediately took action against the officers. The officers are also not claiming it was the department's policy and that they were told to do this.

It is, however, very strange that two different sets of officers did the exact same thing to two different sets of women even including not changing gloves between victims and in two different areas in the state. In both cases the alleged purpose was because of drugs when in both cases the drug issue was laughably non-existent. I'm wondering if all four of these officers worked together before or otherwise knew each other, and this was a scheme they came up with on their own. There's just no way int eh world that any officer would not know how grossly illegal this was. There's also just no way that the state police department could have come up with this policy because they also would know how grossly illegal it would be. I also believe there is no way on earth that all of the state troopers were given this policy and not a single one said a thing about it when they knew it meant that if they ever did something like that they'd be going to jail. There is just no way this could have been given out as a new policy without troopers refusing to do it and creating a shitstorm within the department about it.

I can't fathom though why the department hasn't made some kind of statement of denial, but seeing as all four woman sued I suppose they'd not be allowed to say anything about it. Still, these stories have been out for a long time now, yet not one damn reporter has figured out they ought to be finding out what the hell the deal is. Get a damn statement from the state police department just to reassure women out on the roads all over the state that this ISN'T policy and don't have to worry about it happening to them. And why in the world aren't the women of Texas screaming into every news camera all over the state demanding to know if this is something they have to worry about actually being standard policy. Even rawstory is writing about this shrugging their shoulders not having a clue if it's policy or not. Why in heaven's name are they not bothering to find out???

I just don't know what the hell to make of this. Most insane thing I've ever heard of, and I'm appalled and offended that not one damn journalist can be arsed to find out if these were two totally isolated incidents or if it was an insane and grossly illegal police that not one single trooper gave a rat's ass about and that the state police department can't be bothered either to make some public statement of reassurance.
