The former girlfriend of Charles Starkweather, who accompanied him on a 1958 killing spree that left 10 dead, has been critically injured in a traffic accident, according to a Michigan newspaper.
Caril Ann Fugate Clair, 70, was being treated Tuesday at a hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich., based on a report in the Battle Creek Enquirer.
Starkweather's spree was terrifying. Fugate ended up as the youngest female to be tried in the U.S. for first-degree murder.

One of the most haunting and disturbing songs I know of is "Nebraska"

(12,144 posts)She was just as guilty of the murders as Charlie was. Too bad she was paroled after serving only 16-17 years, but at least she's dead now. Good riddance.

(27,041 posts)I remember back when it happened. After she got out of prison she appeared on a program hosted by F. Lee Bailey, "Lie Detector," where she was asked questions regarding the crimes. She supposedly passed, though maybe it was inconclusive. From everything I've read, I believe she was in love with Charlie, and since her parents didn't like him, Charlie gunned them all down, then they took off on their crime spree across Nebraska. After that she turned on Charlie.
